Baseline prestige for all teams. Topic

Do baselines adjust over time?

For example: an A- baseline program wins a national title, goes to the final four a few times, a couple elite 8's, annually makes the NT.... at what point does their baseline adjust or is it locked?

Baseline prestige is exactly what it says, a baseline. It never changes over time. The schools immediate prestige can change but the baseline will always be the same.

I wonder who created the list, there are several in the category of not really

Georgia Tech, Boston College,Cinci,Wisconsin,Stanford all are ranked to highly compared to the real world.

Wisconsin is sneaky good in the real world every year, and almost always makes the tournament.

Everything ACC is consistently overrated in HD.

think real world five or six years ago

Five or six years ago? Isn't it time for an update?

You dont just update baseline prestige. That would be incredibly stupid.

If you do update baseline prestige, it should be based on the BMI - or is that the Body Mass Index?

I knew it would take all of about 5 posts for someone to use the word stupid. Typical and the reason this forum is nothing like it once was.

So if a coach were to take an A- prestige baseline team to three of four championships in 8 or 9 seasons and turn it into a dominating program - that's not good enough to improve the baseline. Makes all sorts of sense.

And if someone takes Duke or UNC and destroys them for 9 or 10 straight seasons and let's say gets them put on probation for offering gifts there, baseline should remain A+.

But then the name of this site would have to be whatif.... never mind.

I agree with tmac. How could you even do it? What criteria would you use? You cannot have a separate baseline for every world so what do you base the changes on? Please don't say base it on the current real world because this is not the real world. The Duke in HD is not the real Duke. The Chicago State in HD is not the real Chicago State either.

The baseline was originally established to give this game a starting point. After 20, 30, 40+ seasons in 10 separate worlds the floating baselines determine who the top teams are - Not the starting baseline. Depending on which world you happen to be in, the floating prestige for a given school might be a D+ or it might be a B+. Would it be fair to a coach at that school to say ok we have to change the baseline so now this school is a C prestige? The D+ coach (if there even is one) would love it. The B+ coach would spit fire. Maybe I'm oversimplifying this but I don't see the point in making such a drastic change - even if it could be possible.

yeah because by updating prestige you meant that there should be floating baseline prestige and not actually changing the baseline prestiges so that they make sense to real life prestiges, thus updating them.

However I do apologize for the way I posted towards you I thought you were an obnoxious poster who posted like that but I just searched your name and was wrong I don't know why I thought that. My mistake, sorry.

The prestige system that currently exists makes it impossible for a coach to build a powerhouse out of a real world also-ran team. You can make a good run but the baseline will always pull you back. My time at Army is a great example of what the system is designed to do - prevent non-BCS teams from establishing a dynasty. Considering the name of the game, it's pretty ironic.

There is some merit there because it accounts for a lot of the issues we don't deal with in this game (budgets, arenas, facilities, personnel).

The downside is the only real jobs a coach can be successful (at a national level) in the long term are centered in the top conferences. The story to be told is the one WhatIf wants told. We can't write our own. You either accept that or leave the game. I'm playing out the rest of my pre-paid seasons to see if their story is as much fun as the one I tried to write.
