If you had several teams, and one of them was lost, you'd leave HBD forever? That seems extreme. If you only had one team, I could see it ...

That would be a terrible business model. They'd alienate a huge portion of their users
Worse yet, it would be the most responsible owners whom they most alienate. The scurrilous owners wouldn't care at all.

I have two teams. I am currently in the 14th season with one, and the 12th season with the other. By my calculations, I've spent approximately $350 on one team, and $300 on the other (minus credits of course).

If they take away my $300-$350 worth of work and expect me to "start over" with another franchise... yes, I will be done with this game.

I understand what your saying, I was only kidding with the "join a better world" but something drastic has to be done...

I was just throwing an idea out..

Then what you should do, if one of your worlds was in jeopardy of contraction -- had lots of openings that weren't filling -- would be to assist the commish in filling the remaining spots with quality owners.

If there's the potential for 30 or so worlds that are at risk of contraction, make sure yours isn't #27, #28, #29 or #30.

The worlds which don't fill, and which don't have a core of veteran owners willing to go the extra mile to get them filled, should logically be the ones to contract first. They would have the least # of owners who cared about the long-term future of that world, right?

The price should be lowered to the price of simleagues. 10$ a team. Theres plenty of fanatics like myself that would play more teams and run them fine if the price was lower.

Most people have lives and just play one or two teams, but there is a significant amout of people that are retired, disabled, unemployed, and on fixed incomes.

Since words and numbers are all we're paying for, whats the big deal? WoW for instance costs 15 a month, but you can play all you want and they have outstanding graphics. This game can't be all that hard to program and maintain.

I understand that some would abuse the cheapness of the teams, but most of these owners are already identified and commishes could keep them out of the private leagues.

If they lowered the price of this which has a 3 month long seaosn they would have to lower the price of everything.

I would raise hell if HBD was $10 but HD was still $13.

9/29/2009 12:37 AM
Why would you raise hell? I play those other games too. The empty teams are run by sims... Why not have empty teams run by sims then?
9/29/2009 12:39 AM
If they lowered the price by 60%, they'd need to increase the # of teams by 2.5X to make the same amount of money.

If they keep the price as is, they might lose some owners because of the economy, and they may have some worlds take a lot longer to roll, further reducing revenues.

But I think WIS' math (the potential profit margin) strongly favors the status quo.

HD lasts about a month for 13 bucks, while HBD is 25 bucks for about 3 months. If HBD was lowered to 10 bucks for 3 months how would that be fair?
9/29/2009 12:43 AM
Its fair because we have to wait for REAL players to pay money to play. In HD, GD, you dont have to wait, EVER.
9/29/2009 12:47 AM
Lowering cost never works. You want a healthy game not a cheap game.

It's already $.27 a day. It's easy to grow disinterested in something that costs nothing. Make it a dime a day and the classifieds will be full of "Need replacement owner for abandoned team!"

I really would be interested to hear from WIS about this. The promo codes and free seasons are a good band-aid, but this problem is going to continue until something more significant changes.

Seriously, how many worlds have actually been contracted?

No, they're not. All they do is delay the problems for another three months, but also results in a slew of aliases and abandonments in the short-term. I'd say they do more harm than good.

They should give a public world 2 weeks to fill if they dont do it close the world down and let the guys who were in the world find a new already existing world (private or public) to join.

Give all those owners their season they alreayd purchased back and like a 5 buck credit or something and be done with it.

I believe only one world was eliminated completely (MLHB). That doesn't include the two other alias worlds that were eliminated after their first seasons.

All other contracted worlds had their active teams move in totality into new worlds. Nobody lost anything other than team and player history.

At some point, the supply and demand will equal out. Or owners will grow tired of waiting for their worlds to roll, and move over to worlds that are closer to rolling -- which would lead to an owner-driven contraction.

The best idea. And probably the one that would be chosen by WIS, since that's basically how they handled it last time.
