I would use a 3-2 when the team shoots like 30% of their shots from 3.

I would also use 3-2 when they have a poor reboudning team and start 3 guards.

I like using zone at D3, and I just try to recruit the best offense I can, and don't worry about the defense much, except for recruiting some decent rebounders.
