1885-86 League Discussion Thread Topic

I like Nea's draft order proposal. Seems fair and different. I would also like to vote against using WiS Park. I think 30 minute draft slots would be ideal so we can try to complete the draft as early as possible before heavy vacation time starts approaching.

As for a league name I have no ideas! LoL Alpha/Omega works for me, but I have no preference.

Guys I'm going to let the discussion run the rest of the day and possibly into tomorrow.......just to let everyone have a chance to voice their opinion.

So far it seems that nobody has a problem with starting the clock on Monday 11/30 and nobody seems to like 1 hour time slots. This is based on posts here and sitemails that I've received.

We'll keep things open, but be prepared to start the clock on this coming Monday. There's no way I'm going to be able to keep the draft board up to date with regular time slots while I'm out of town so we're going to have to stop the clock from Thursday-Sunday. I should be able to check in on a limited basis just to keep things somewhat caught up. When I get home Sunday afternoon.....I'll set the clock for Monday to finish out the round we are in so that the next day we can start fresh. If by chance we are near the end of a round, I may extend the drafting day a little bit to catch up those picks and get another round in just to not waste the day.

Right now it also seems that most want to ensure that we complete full rounds each day....no half rounds. What I was thinking there was 45 min time slots for at least the first 4 days of the clock (12 hr drafting day).

After that, we can go to 30 minute time slots and a 16 hr drafting day (allowing 2 rds/day). Since these later rounds aren't as crucial, nobody is going to be hurt too bad if something comes up unexpectedly and they miss their slot and haven't been able to get out a proxy list.

alright, so the ideas up for discussion so far:

Name (Alpha, Alpha-Omega, anything else)

Time Slots (60,30,45 mins.)

Order (Serpentine, or nea's idea)

WIS Park? (to use or not to use)

Clock Starts/Stops? (Nov.30th, stop 3rd-6th, or start 7th)

Time of Slots (10amEST-10pmEST)

is this correct?

thanks... but, im wondering when the order will be up? it changes my draft strategy immensely...

I don't see the difference between WIS Park and several of the others---Columbia Park, West Side Grounds, Philadelphia Base Ball Grounds, the two League Parks---which are as close to neutral as makes no diff. But I guess there's something to be said for an actual park. Majority rules.

[Question for the future, possibly relevant in thinking about this: will parks go out of existence as they did historically, forcing (or permitting) certain owners to change parks?]

I don't understand the advantage the proposed alternate draft rule would give, but it's fine with me. No objection.

Everything looks fine.

i was wondering about parks being taken down, as well... of course, that could mean we'd have to change cities at some point, too...

For fun, name suggestions:

The Cutting Edge

(since it advances year by year and is always the latest thing)

The First Frontier, The Final Frontier (same idea)

Two Out of Many (starts with several historical leagues, ends with AL & NL)

Can you do a random.org draft order for me. Just do #'s 1-16 and post in the owner's forum under the 1885-86 Prog Lg Discussion Thread.

Thanks.

I'm ok with either of those start dates.

Alpha is good with me.

Either duration for a pick is fine too.

I pretty much go with the flow.
