Poison Pill League (7 in) Topic

Huh, what just happened to dh's post?

"Poison pill specifications: Minimum $5 mil salary, minimum 2700 minutes"

is kemp close enough to count? 2500 mins 4.8 mil
12/2/2009 4:25 PM
ltb...i think you should also make it a rule that the poison player has to play his average mins a game every game(unless he dips below 100% fatigue)

For now let's interpret the rules strictly since there was a lot of discussion about what they should be back in September. But let's hear from other owners as they sign up and search around for good (meaning lousy) players. I'm okay with lowering the minutes and/or salary floor a bit if several owners agree it needs to happen.

Again, let's hear some discussion/debate on this. My initial reaction is that the lower salary cap is the safeguard. I could argue that it's fine if an owner wants to try to hide (that is, minimize the the playing time of) a particular player they end up with, but that means wasted money in a $37 mil league.

LTB, I agree with the premise that the cap is a hamper to that kind of thing, but I would hate to see someone who REALLY minimized somehow come away with a win, when the premise is to see if you can take the 2001 76ers . . .heh. . . .to a championship. (That was actually a good season for him, but I had to make the joke)

Maybe an end of season requirement that they had to have played at least 80% of their total minutes? I don't know how hard those things are to enforce.

But implement what, exactly? Some way of ensuring that owners utilized all or most of the "poisonous" minutes?

NM. I think you're right, it's too hard to enforce because the season will progress and owners could just "swamp" the minutes and backfill later.

ltb...i think your right with the salary cap being 37...it should force owners to have to use the poison player...which also makes more sense for you to keep the salary and mins as high as they are

im going to keep kemp as my second for now just in case more people want it a lil lower...but i can have a replacement player ready at any time....its a blast looking for terrible seasons

Nice, gramps. I was looking at that Elgin season myself. He gives you points and rebounds, pretty low efficiency and he's a turnover machine.

Yes, two rounds and two players, with a lower cap. We can certainly formalize an expectation that, let's say, at least 90% of a poison player's minutes need to be used up by the end of regular season. But I still think that the salary cap is the great equalizer. None of us will be able to afford to waste minutes.

Come on in, y'all, there's nothing to be scared of! (Well, not too much, anyway...) This league is a great opportunity for owners up for the challenge of a lower cap and some (deservedly) rarely used players.
