The reason for it makes sense. Even if the guy isn't hired, he's getting face time. That can't hurt. The reason it's stupid is simple. Seattle is hiring Pete Carroll. Any minority they interview is just for show. "Look at us!!! We interviewed a black guy!" Pay no mind to the fact that he knew he wasn't getting the job. I don't know why anyone would even be the NFL's show pony.
