It appears as though position players with less than 10 seasons played are eligible to be nominated but not pitchers. patrick, is this a glitch?

I agree about the position - if its toomuch of a burden on the system to figure out what position he played the most at, just get rid of that column!

I guess that line might be confusing some of you. The eligibility requirements are per ML year. So, if a player was generated with 5 ML years they are counting in the season totals. We did not want to assume stats where they weren't available. This is why we decided to lower the qualifications.

But if you're not going to assume stats for them (which I agree with, by the way), shouldn't those years be eliminated from the equation? Makes it tough for a guy to qualify when he's credited with 6 ML seasons where he didn't throw a single pitch.
2/2/2010 1:44 PM
That is why we reduced the stats required for eligibility...

So the years of ML service qualification is taken from the player profile and can include seasons before the HBD world was created.

But the stat qualifications (PA, G, IP) are only from HBD seasons.

Got it.
2/2/2010 2:00 PM
Yes, that is correct.

The requirements were too high initially and we decided to lower them to account for player's that had had ML Years generated prior to world creation (and for other reasons, but this is the major one).

Seems like this had a more negative impact on pitchers than position players.

Early on, there will still be a few worthy guys who get snubbed because of this. But I guess, as each world gets older and the original guys are phased out, it won't make much of a difference.

By season 20 of each world, players with prior years of service will cease to exist, and everyone in each world will have had their entire career occur within that world. And even by then, the guys who were very young when the world was created will have logged enough service within that world to make their prior years a moot point.

So I guess we can live with 3 or 4 guys not getting their day in court, in exchange for everything running more smoothly and the ballot not getting too bloated.
2/2/2010 2:11 PM
That's really the gist of it. Should we even consider a guy with 8 actual seasons?
2/2/2010 2:45 PM
Depends on the guy I guess. Look I get why they did what they did in terms of qualifications. I just don't like that they average the statistics based on their ML years for original guys that were in their late 20's when the world was generated. Thus, in a couple of cases, they essentially average out the stats with 8-9 zeroed out seasons tacked on.
2/2/2010 2:54 PM
I suppose a "better" way to go would be to average the stats of those guys(less than 10 seasons for orignal generated players) over 10 seasons instead of 14-15. But, in the end, you're adding a handful of players to the nomination process. It hardly seems worth the hassle.

I just noticed that "World Series Ring" has been added to the awards section of the player profile for those that have won them. That's new to this update, correct? Or am I crazy?
2/2/2010 5:27 PM
Can't it be both?
2/2/2010 7:34 PM
Entirely possible. I've never been evaluated by trained professionals.
