I'll need to reread that. When I read Glory of Their Times the first time, I thought it was an awful lot of the same thing....each story was very similar.
You definitely should check it out again... I think there's a lot more variety in their stories than there would be in the stories of the guys coming up these days. Plus, as it was all transcribed from actual oral interviews with those players, you can often really hear their individual voices. Ever since reading that, Sam Crawford has been one of my favourite players.
One day I gotta get around to purchasing the
CD of the recorded interviews.
