I think I understand this. This is where Rule 5 changes things. If a guy is on the 40, but in the minors, at rollover, he gets a ML contract whose minimum is $59k (as opposed to the AAA min of $55k). If he is in this situation for multiple seasons, I believe he gets a small raise each season.
Once (and only once) a guy is on the ML roster at any point during the season, he gets paid at least $327k prorated for that season. The exception is Rule 5 guys, who get paid at least $327k fot that season (and that season only), even if they go through the offer back process and get sent down on optional asignment, having never touched an ML roster.
However, in the following season, they are like any other player- if they starrt the season in the minors but on the 40, the min is $59k. If they're off the 40, then it's min by level.
