10K on a DII recruit? i've spent way more than that on a DIII recruit and lost.

i would think that there are coaches at DII that have spend upwards of $20k+ and lost out on a target

Not to the degree that anyone is talking, but I spent $5185 on a guy including 2 CVs and multiple HVs, guaranteed 20 mins and he was talking like he was going to come to my school and a day or 2 after signings had begun, he signed with my conference rival when coaches are normally strapped for cash. I called the coach out on it, asking him what he spent, etc, and crickets. I was ****** and to a certain extent, still am.

i once spent $75k on a D1 recruit w/ B prestige and lost out to an A+ prestige school. the recruit was 50 miles from me and over 200 miles from the opposing coach.

it's sad.

Wow, that must've been painful.

What do you mean by "Coaches should be strapped for cash" You are setting yourself up for failure if you are recruiting on the notion that someone is strapped for cash based solely on what day of recruiting it is.

He was going really hard after a guy he was never going to get...the other coach in that battle reamed him out twice for doing it, and like I said, I've asked him more than once what he spent and no response. There needs to be more transparency.

Couldn't disagree w/ that statement more. We already can see who a kid is considering, and you know via distance how much a school has to spend for certain items...you know exactly where you sit vs. a school from a prestige point of view, and you can make a pretty good guestimate of what their budget is. You can also see if they are in any other battles. How much more transparency do you need???

Oh please do not get him started on that subject, you are right, his thought that recruiting should be more transparent is absurd but trust me you don't want to here his whining about it.

I spent almost 100K on a recruit and lost and I was A prestige

Wow that is hard to do...what distance?

This isnt as bad expense-wise. But last season my DIII Wentworth Tech team (A+) thought we had a nice PG that would have pretty much started 4 seasons, until a DII squad dropped down to get him.

I see players dropping down, but that was the first time I saw a school dropping down.

I'll preface this be saying it was my 2nd season in HD. My horror story concerned recruiting a JUCO center, spent $7k to woo him away from playing at Chaminade then read you can only have 6 players in a class. Already had 6 sophs. DOH!
