:-(

oh well, we knew donahue was going... good for him, BC could be a pretty good job, i hope he does well.

sooo, who is the next bigREd coach?

i dont think they are actually going to take my advice and hire 22 year old ryan wittman as head coach, assisted by his old man, randy wittman, former twolves coach and also played for knight at IU and won a title as a player.

okay, so, what will we do? im thinking we will go hard after army's zach spiker. he was donahue's longtime assistant (excellent ivy recruiter and really well liked in ithaca) but last year to take the army job.

one snag may be that army is not a bad job and spiker may feel obligated (or maybe even be contractually obligated?) to stay at army more than 1 year.

i guess we'll see.

i just hope we can continue the momentum that stevie started.

i know we wont go to the sweet16 every year (id prolly be happy if we could get there once every 10 years. but we should be able stay at or near the top of the ivy league every year.

Dino Gaudio is fired.

Mitch Buenoguro, assistant at Siena, has been given the top job there. He was head coach at Fairfield from 1985-1991.

Pat Kelsey, assistant at Xavier, is considered the top candidate at Wake Forest. If so, that would be a continuation of the Xavier-Wake Forest connection. Both Bob Staak and Skip Prosser Xavier for Wake. Plus, fired coach Dino Gaudio was an assistant at Xavier. The two schools play an annual charity game in honor of the late Skip Prosser.

Bobby Hurley, Duke All-American, is expected to become an assistant to his brother Dan at Wagner. They only have 1 scholarship available this year, and another one next year, so it could be a slow build

On the same day that Dan Hurley got the Wagner job, his father was elected to the Basketball Hall of Fame. Bob Hurley, Sr. is only the 3rd high school coach to be inducted. He coaches St. Anthony H.S. in Jersey City. They finished #7 in the USA national poll but have been the mythical national champion 3 times. Hurley has had 150 players earn college scholarships.

In a surprise move, Iona bypassed Louisville assistant Steve Masiello and picked Tim Cluess from DII C.W. Post. Cluess was 98-23 at C.W. Post, including 30-1 in 2008-09.

Ed Conroy, the new coach at Tulane, his alma mater, The Citadel, to take over the Green Wave. His cousin, novelist Pat Conroy, also played basketball at The Citadel. The opening line of his novel, "The LosingSeason", is "I was born to be a point guard, but not a very good one."

Rutgers and Fred Hill are negotiating the end of his job. This brings the total to 39 schools that will have a new coach next season

St. Francis (NY) coach Brian Nash resigned for 'personal reasons' following an 11-18 season in which the team failed to qualify for the conference playoffs

I've updated the coaching carousel on page #1

Two more vacancies have been filled.

UC Irvine taps Russell Turner, an assistant with the Golden St. Warriors.

Charlotte names Alan Majors, asst. coach at Ohio State.

A close source at Marshall indicates that Buzz Peterson (Appalachian St.) is the front runner, along with Tim Herrion (Pitt asst.)

I've updated the list on page #1.

Nice thread buddy! I was not aware of so many moves. I think that is because there are no REAL big openings but tons of decent ones. I am interested to see who Oregon, Clemson, and Wake end up hiring. Those are great jobs IMO. Also I can't wait to see if the old town drunk Billy G gets a job somewhere.

Would be really cool if Corliss had a great year and took over for Pel when he gets canned next season.

Wake Forest athletic director Ron Wellman said after firing Dino Gaudio earlier this week he wanted to find a coach who fit the school and had coached at the highest level.

He may have found his choice in Colorado's Jeff Bzdelik. Wellman and Bzdelik have been friends for decades and over the past two days have been discussing a deal that would move the Buffaloes coach to Wake Forest, according to multiple sources. As of late Friday night the deal was not done. The two sides expected more movement Saturday.

Bzdelik, whose daughter Courtney attends Wake Forest, started his coaching career at Davidson . Bzdelik coached the Denver Nuggets before going to Air Force and then to Colorado, where in three seasons he took the Buffaloes from 1-15 in the Big 12, to 3-13 to 6-10 this past season within one game of .500 overall at 15-16.

I really dont get that. Why would you fire Gaudio unless you had a sure thing lined up. Bzdelik seems like the opposite of a sure thing, never has had success in a major conference and apparently runs the princeton offense. Not smart.

(Not saying the princeton offense isn't good, however a lot of top recruits will be turned off by it)

Many coaches and agents would consider it distasteful to interview for a job behind Gaudio's back. It's rarely done that way

Marshall has hired Tom Herrion, Pitt assistant
