The Rule, Not Exception: Falling Short Topic

I get really tired of seeing the bulk of players get to their 4th or 5th season, with good coaching and stop short of their projections. It's not "sim."

It can wreck my strategy.

I'm not trying to be flip here, but it sounds like you're pursuing a bad strategy based on unrealistic expectations. If "the bulk" of players fall short of their projections, then stop basing your plan on the expectation that they will.

I stopped paying attention to projections quite a while ago, because I realized the only ratings that truly matter are the current ratings – i.e., is this player ready to help me in the big leagues and, if not, when will he be? If he's not ready by age 23 or 24 but another owner thinks he's a future MLer, that guy is a good candidate to trade. In my experience, the best players are ready – or very close – by that age, so if it looks as if a player has more room to grow I assume he won't make it and flip him for someone younger and, hopefully, better.

You've got to react to what the game gives you instead of expecting it to conform to your expectations.

It's just silliness that this thread has gotten this much attention.

First, players develop skill ratings in their 30s. I've seen it. However, their physical ratings start to decline. So a player is never going to peak in every category at the same time.

Second, I don't think anyone develops a player perfectly. Who has a HC or PC coach who is rated 100 in every category? And, for those who do, does your prized player stick with him throughout his career?

Third, I posted the definition of projections the other day. They are an estimate on future possibilities. Believing they are 100% accurate is an exercise in lack of understanding.

Stop this nonsense.
