I have a 30 year old RP who, last season, said he was going to test the market. We rolled to the new season last night, and now he's saying "Let's be honest, I'll play for whoever shows me the money." So I should be able to re-sign him on "resign your departing FAs" day.

He's also a Type A, and has shown no decline in ratings during the off-season.

This is incorrect. I had this happen to me as well. Sent in a ticket and they said something about changing the verbage, as it is confusing.

He will not resign with you no matter what. He is going to FA to test the market. Maybe you can sign him there, but definitely not beforehand.

Here's the admin's reply to the ticket: (exact quote from this thread.)

Hi Paul,

The player's status was that he was going test the free agency market. The message in which "he didn't care who he signed with as long as we showed him the money" didn't mean that he would re-sign, it meant that he's going to test the free agent market and sign with whoever offers him the most money.

The message could be a little confusing and we'll work to try and clear up any confusing messages in future updates.

If that's true, then that needs to be fixed. Because I'm doing my budget on the assumption that I'll be able to resign him for his asking price.

And that's what I did, and that's why the ticket was sent.

He WILL NOT resign. I can assure you he is DEFINITELY going to test the market.

See above post for admin's own explaination of that message.

In fact I eventually tried offering more than his asking price and finally he responded he was going to FA no matter what.
5/27/2010 7:58 PM
Yeah, I believe the response will be "Unless you blow my client away with a better offer, he will be testing free agency."
5/27/2010 8:33 PM
Yup. Ditto to what everyone said. I went round and round with them on this one.

I think they should eliminate the words "away with a better offer'', along with the comma. Replace it with the word or.

Great album.

What the current WIS free agency system tells me is don't bring up players before they have played 4 seasons in the minors because you will not be able to resign them. I think WIS should rethink the current system as it penalizes owners who bring players to the majors early in their career.

I'd like to know if he shows up in your "resign FAs" list.
5/28/2010 8:11 PM
Yes, he does. His message is now "I'm testing free agency, no matter what."

Not quite sure why that message couldn't be there on budget day(yesterday), seeing that I budgeted under the apparent delusion that he would resign with me.
5/29/2010 11:15 AM
Had the same thing happen a couple of seasons back tec. Thought I had plenty of money set aside to sign my reigning CY and past MVP free agents. Next day after budget was set, they changed the message. I barely had enough cap room to get the pitcher. I almost quit over that.
