For leagues with specific team name requirements (80M, 90M, 100M), it would be a good idea to use a generic team name for now. Once the league fills, I will ask everybody to rename their team name.

We don't want people looking to see who the top owners are using in some of the themes, then copying their idea.

I'm just curious...obviously there's skill involved in these leagues, but do you find there's a lot of luck involved as well? As in, gambling on a risky "all or nothing" strategy, as opposed to playing it safe?

Mildly interesting to see there are 12 owners who have been in all seven editions. I would've expected that number to be larger.

I'm not sure that there is an "all or nothing" strategy. If you know a strategy works, then use it. If you want to try something never tried before, this probably isn't the best place to try it.

Luck does come into play with the random division alignment within each league. Last year, there were a couple of .500 teams that advanced to the playoffs, while some 90-win teams didn't. A playoff appearance is worth anywhere between 5 and 31 points (avg = 13.5). If you are unlucky enough to be in the "wrong" division one or two times, then you could bubble and miss round 2.

All or nothing can kill you. Two (?) years ago there was an all offense league and some people really shorted themselves on pitching. A few high quality owners were down in the 50 win territory and essentially missed the next round because of one bad team.

The first round is all about advancing teams to the playoffs and producing. I've seen people advance four teams to the playoffs and then have all four lose in the first round causing them to miss the second round. Conversely, there are always owners that have one or two teams make the playoffs and win a WS. Those 31 pts are huge considering the cut will likely be somewhere around 550.

It's kind of a nice feeling to be ranked up there with some of these big-time names with only a fraction their experience. Now I just have to hope I don't get throttled too badly once the leagues get going.

Hey, I also jumped three points! I'm already climbing the charts with a bullet!

I've copied a few names that are ranked ahead of me to my desktop... I'm willing to bet that I finish ahead of them. Seems like "championships" are getting a lot of weight. I can't remember the last time I ever played in an open league. And I've had tons of my last few years in progressives. So, I feel sorry for the higher ranked teams that got stuck with me as a 40 seed.

ennam_iv, the more tournaments you play in, the more weight your tournament finishes will have (and the less weight your win% and number of championships will have).

I feel sorry for all the schlubs who drew Mr. 90 over here. I'm just lying in the weeds, playing dead, and then POW!!!

Just ask schwarze...I'm gonna have the honour of upsetting him in 3 of our leagues

It takes a strong will to be beaten down on an annual basis by some of the best in the sim.
