Is it possible to win in San Diego? Topic

Weiland's speed is 66, and his baserunning is 56, but I get your point about the middling contact; I had hoped that his power, vR/L rates and batting eye would help him survive in Petco.  And, actually, in his two years with SD he has faired better at home than Martin, at least in batting average.  Of course, Martin's ability to draw the walk gets him on base more often than Weiland's slight edge in batting average.

Anyway, looking at one example -- Adrian Gonzalez -- the knock in slugging percentage seems about right for Petco (about 120-160 points difference between at home and on the road, ouch).  But I still feel that the park depresses overall hitting too much and that the dropoff in batting average is too steep.

That said, it seems that an emphasis on pitching and defense, with maybe some high contact/speedy guys on offense, is the way to go, which is more or less what I assumed when I moved the franchise to SD, making my blunders almost exclusively a problem of execution (big surprise), and not a failure to understand which players might compete best at Petco.
