I've never not once had a guy not sign long term after 2 years of arbitration. People have said they've seen it, but I never have.

yeah you completely lost out on two more years of the guy by signing him long term too early. However, dont worry - theguy only has a speed of 13 - he completely sucks. ;)

The no-trade clause does not add to the value of the contract unless the player specifically demands it.

Well its the last day of FA signing and he still hasn't signed, which makes no sense.  The guy was offered at least 10 max contracts on day one.

The other thing that is coming out of this mess is at least 2 other FA pitchers in this world are going to also get max or close to max contracts even though they are not close to as good as Melendez and older..  Not sure if its because so many people cleared money to sign Melendez and figure to just spend it on someone else.  Or if its coming from fustration and just pure stubborness.

I know I went after one of them and was leading and got outbid.  Was leading again and got outbid again.  Each time I got outbid I got mad and increased my bid.  All of a sudden I realized I was at $18mil X 5 and outbid!!  Thankfully I caught myself and said "WTF am I doinfg?  Im gonna give THIS guy $20mil X 5???!!!!

Guess Ill just eat the money.

So as it turned out you were all wrong.

He signed for the same max contract that I offered him (which we knew).  Also the team that signed him had the 26th worst rated pitching coach in the league.  So the PC theory is out the window.  Also it was a pitchers park but not any more than mine.

So there is no ryhme or reason to it as far as I see.  I had a better PC.  I had an exact same ballpark.  Pretty sure both teams won about 90 games and made the playoffs last season so no difference there.

Spent 10 seasons with me.  Won 2 rings.  Made playoffs almost every year .......... should have signed with me.  Screw him.

Funny... while there's no doube he's awesome, I'd have thought more IP for a 30/90 DUR/STA guy with that kind of top shelf talent.

EDIT: A decent comparison, Mark Valdes was a solid 255-290 IP for 7 seasons never higher than 26/82 (and was only 82 for 1 season).

Oh and about the other 2 pitchers that I said would be overpayed ....................

This guys was way overpayed.  Only $2.5 mil per less than Melendez

The real kicker is this guy.  I offered him $18mil X 5 and he signs for way less

Its just stupid.

He could have pitched more innings and won more games easily but I use a six man rotation.
