Ah, I did not check his RP status....... and 12 players in 1900 won't be enough...

Quick ruling on this one: We'll use 1900 and 1901. So far the rest of the seasons have enough players.

Looks like we're turning into a deadball league.  6 season all 1915 and earlier

How do you find who was a rookie by WIS without clicking on each player? I have 1897 to pick next round and everyone the history sites say was a rookie didn't have a WIS season!!!

Set the year to 1897 and then set the *first/last* menu to first - it will show you all of the players who are in their first year.
Be sure to set the hitters to *0* games(the default is 20), and make sure the pitchers are set at *P*

That is why Mathewson didn't come up for 1900 at first, thanks!

all of these deadball era choices will lead to MASSIVE transactions every year --- not enough depth to support 24 choices each season in which those players will actually have a career

not griping, just thinking out loud :)

That is true.
I initially thought of making a limit of 5 Cuts per season from the get-go, but figured we would get a lot of early 1900's choices which means there just aren't that many good players for everyone to build teams with right away. We will go with unlimited cuts for the first 2 seasons for sure so we can add those "other" seasons and their good players into the league at a bit faster clip. It will mean longer drafts the first couple of years but I think everyone will put up with that since it will also mean better players for everyone. Twisting and Cutting the first few seasons will be an important strategy!

so I'm understanding correctly....

I draft a 1905 stiff that only has a decent year in say, 1906 and then falls off the face of the earth or stops playing or whatever.....since I twisted him to 1906, if I cut him, I then must draft a player whose rookie year was 1907, although I can again twist that new player to any year....right?

That is correct jay

The hard part of all of this at the start will be maintaining a Soup of 25 different seasons, twisting enough players to good seasons so you can compete, and setting up your players so when you cut them you get good new seasons to draft new players from.

You have to remember that we are all starting with the same seasons so we will only be able to twist those players so far, thus resulting in a lot of the same seasons being used by a lot of owners even for the first few years. Not until we get a few more seasons down the road will we start to get spread out in terms of twisting to a lot of different seasons by everyone. Then the player pool will become larger and the talent better.
