There's no cookie cutter way to win at this game.  You knew he was a project, so why give up on that?  He's 1 guy...keeping him isn't going to cause California to fall into the ocean.  Worst that happens is he never plays more than 10 mpg.  Big deal.  I think (depending on what his potentials look like), he could be of some use his sr year as a bench player.  Steve Kerr never had much ath/speed either, and I think his lack of both are hidden somewhat in the zone.  And if he stays sucky, so what?  Chalk it up to the cost of learning the game.

I really don't like mccaig, even for my teams, which are all D3. I recruit for ath/spd/de, so to me, mccaig is a pretty big liability. Maybe once in a while, I'll throw in a low def or low ath player if the guy has great point guard ratings, 75+bh, 75+ passing.

Anyways, mccaig might have been ok if he was high-high in the key areas, but from his growth, it's obvious that he's not. This guy even after maxing out, will probably be something like 35ath 60 spd, that's mediocre in D3 and probably bad (i think, since I don't play d2) for D2.

ok - so we all admit i f'd up with recruting mccaig, maybe i should have just taken a walkon and used the cash next season...

i'm still confused on why you would play renner over cespedes... i get you calue def more than me (i play zone so i can focus less on def, and more on other cores)

I think i may drop mccaig, and take a transfer or juco guy instead (to keep my classes even), maybe i can find a defensive oriented guy to come off the bench or start against high level SGs...

thanks for the advice guys, i've got a few seasons under my belt, and i'm doing OK this year, but i still have a lot to learn.
