Low WE with high upside or High WE average upside? Topic

Yeah , you guys definitely have a bitter rivalry.

I wouldn't call it a rivalry, for a rivalry to occur both sides need to win games which is something Dano just can't do.

That's not fair, Josh. He's beaten me once in 8 tries.

Besides the banter, my two cents is do a few scouting trips because there is a differece between 'high' potential and 'very high' and you only find that out by scouting. In my experience very high is a minimum of 20 and has gone as high as 70 points of improvement in a category. Whereas only a high potential I have seen peak as low as 10-15 points.

So I always try to find the bargain recruit that has a solid WE and very high potential in key categories as a way to round out my team. They won't star but they will contribute.

While I don't like to disagree with big hairy arabs generally, I will do so here. High is always at least 19 points improvement, just depends on a lot of other factors whether he'll reach that.

I think so too.  I am actually tracking this now. For one player, Greer, who was a redshirt, he increased in Speed by 23, Reb by 42, PE by 41, BH by 25.
Here are 3 other players that are in their senior year now, with still about 20 games to go in their senior year. This is how much they have improved for the categories that they were rated high on Future Stars
Norman has increased in PE by 29 and BH by 28
Taveras has increased in Spd by 18, Def by 31, LP by 45, P by 18, ST by 13
Phillips has increased in Athj by 22, Spd by 23, Reb by 27, and LP by 53.

A couple of students of the game, iguana and billyg, that post in these forums (forii??  Fora??) have said there's a 5-tier system for player improvement, not 3.  There is low-low, low, average, high and high-high.  Naturally you are most interested in high and high-high.  High is 20-30; high-high is 30+.  My Clayton State team in Naismith is graduating a PG who went from 29 to 87 in PE, 57-93 in PA and 49-92 in PA over his career.  How do you tell if a player is high or high-high in cats designated high by FSS?  By  sending your assistant to scout the kid during recruitment.  The assistant's language will tell you--words like "massive", "huge", "tremendous", etc, signal high-high; words like "significant" and "substantial" signify low-high.  Sorry that I can't link to the articles.  Beyond my paygrade.
