I signed him cheap.  It's going to be an experiment for me.  I'll redshirt him (forgot to tell him, so he won't like it much), and then see where he ends up. He's a SG. I'm hoping I can make him a useful DIII player in three years.

Current Ratings (and potential)

i have a returning sr who has been all conference 1st and 3rd tam and stared as a 6in ath.  huge speed guy, huge PE guy. ok WE, he does turn it over to much bit he'll make an all-american team this year with 20pts and 3 assist per game.  I've found that it hurts the most in regards to TO's.  had a point guy  that should have been much better but his 15ath caused qmany TO's and, less assists too

That guy will never be an adequate defender and his BH is going to prevent him from being all that much of a scorer.  Not a good recruit even if most of his highs are high-high, really.

During his redshirt season, I put most of his practice minutes into conditioning, footwork, and perimeter.  After the redshirt season, his ratings are:

Athleticism 4  (+3)
Speed 47 (+8)
Rebounding 13 (-2)
Defense 14 (+5)
Shot Blocking 5 (+2)
Low Post 2 (0)
Perimeter 64 (+9)
Ball Handling 47 (0)
Passing 26 (0)
Work Ethic 94 (0)
Stamina 74 (+1)
Durability 59 (+5)

Overall 449 (+31)

I'm starting to think I'll get some use out of this guy in DIII by his junior year.  I'm just not sure where that athleticism is going to cap out.  Can it get to 30?

He is low high in ath, high high in spd. He will not make it to 30 but should have 13-14 improvement in spd next season if he gets minutes and same practice in conditioning. I see him at 11-12 ath to start soph year unless off season improvements tack on a few more with the great work ethic.

I read that someone said he was the low end of high on original potential.   If that's true he probably only has 3-12 points left.
If that was a guess made solely on the rate of first year improvement of SPD vs ATH that was a total miscalculation as ratings crawl from 1 to 10.

If he actually had a high-high in ATH,  and if he went from 4->17 in one season I wouldn't be surprised to see him get close to 35-40 next season.

Wait a minute.  What's this talk of high-high.  Have I missed something?

I guess we don't know how carlnault knows whether he is high high or low high unless he scouted the player with evals or you are him, so I believe iguana's comment is in ref to that. If he is indeed low-high as posted above by carlnault, he has 3-12 pts left.

Sorry, I don't understand what you mean by high-high and low-high.  When I scouted him, he was high potential in several areas.  What would high-high mean, and how would I know if he was? I gotta start spending more time on the forums.

there isn't really 3 categories, there are 5 - low-low, high-low, average, low-high and high-high. Scouting eval messages are different for each stat and each category. Here are the differences between the low-high and high-high

Upthread, another user said he was low-high in ath. Presumably that user sent some scouting evals to your kid to know that. If that info is inaccurate, he might be high-high, but based on the info given so far in the thread, that's where Iguana's prediction enters.

So do the two refer to rate of improvement, and ceiling?  So low-high would mean quick growth, but a lower max, and high-high would mean quick growth to a higer max?

No.  I prefer using low-, low+, average, high-, high+ terminology for less ambiguity.  The plus or minus just differentiates within a category.  So low is 0-6, low- might be 0-3 and low+ 3-6.  High is 20 or more, high- is approximately 20-28, high+ is 28 or more.  (I've seen the line for high+ be anywhere from 28-30 in the forums).

Potential does affect growth: the closer to the cap, the slower the rate of change (both directions).  WE and playing time are also factors.
