doomey, I understood you, basically, but you did a really horrible job of stating the issue initially, which is what most of the exchange revolves around - once they realized what you were asking, they indicated that the database showed you made the offer. I'm not really sure what you want - if you're positive you didn't make the offer, I'd make sure your password is secure.

I can't believe that a player signed without an offer.
3/7/2011 4:09 PM
Well, since it's a position players and doomey said he only pursued pitchers, it would be hard for him to inadvertently make an offer.   I'm not prepared to say he's making up a story but it seems impossible without a "phantom offer".    Maybe it's an isolated incident(they usually aren't so another should surface soon enough) or maybe doomey had an extra shot of tequila or bong hit two weekends ago.

Either way, the first ticket was a bit confusing so he started off on the wrong foot with CS.   Although, quite frankly, if low level support can't figure it out, they attempt to dismiss it.    Were I doomey, I'd send another, more clear ticket and re-open the issue.

I also don't see the second signing looking at his transaction log. I see where he signed Wilfredo, but I don't see a DH signing.

Well, that puts a damper on the phantom offer possibility and increases the odds of the extra bong hit.

3/7/2011 4:36 PM
You say that like it's a bad thing.
3/7/2011 4:38 PM
Well, maybe it is...it would explain 36-73, anyway.
3/7/2011 4:39 PM
Well, to start with... the word is "PURSUE".
3/7/2011 4:43 PM
I don't know if it is unheard of, since there was at least one other coach in my league who has reported a phantom signing as well. And like I said, it was corrected internally, so I have no particular agenda to push, I just don't like being dismissed that way. I completely understand the whole situation is convoluded, but when I asked it siccicntly when asked for clarification, they just repeated what I already knew (and told them) and said quit asking. That's my main beef.

Al, I figured out the DH, he came in (again the convoluded restoration of a team the previous owner purged as he left story) a transaction where we were infusing the ruined club with cash. No issue there. Just that 3B. Never even considered any FA position players, had absolutely no need for them.

todd, really? Correcting typos? I guess if it passes the time...

Why wasn't customer service notified originally when the former owner dropped his players, so they could be restored then?

If I'm the new team owner, I'm ****** that for the next 3 years I'm paying $18M for a guy who would have been paid $1M, plus extra in what would be his first arbitration year.

Well that is when they should be ****** at CS.

This sounds like a guy who forgot he made an offer, or is coming up with an elborate story to defend himself from any backlash, or had his password stolen.

I'm not sure what to take from that, jonas, but I'll go to my grave on the fact it would have had to have been temoprarily insane or had amnesia to have made that offer since I haven't made any bids for major ML postition talent from season 1 on.

There is abosutly nothing for me to defend my self from. I saw him in my office, said who the heck is he, saw where he came from, offered him up to his old team (from topic referenced) for a RL scrub, posted on my World Chat to see if anyone knew what was up then sent in a ticket. Like I said, there were no henious consequences other than the cash tie up, so this was honestly just a fact finding endeavor intended to let CS know of a problem, nothing more.

I suppose my PW could have been compromised, but it really seems like making an offer on a player is a rather benign way to mess someone up...

I've got nothing to gain by pursuing this thing (or anything to lose, really), I just thought I was being a helpful customer and pointing it out before it made a difference to someone who really had a problem. I can't say anything about the frequency, other than we had one other owner say it had happened to him in the past.

ian, when I say "most of free agency" I meant the most of the rest  of free agency. And he could have had my money tied up longer than I knew since I didn't make any major plays for anyone until later. I didn't even have PC or HC until right near the end of coach signings (due mainly to some people giving 8 million contracts to top coachs and the battles lasting for awhile).
3/7/2011 9:59 PM
All this is a little off the point. Regardless of the situation, the way CS handled it was very ham-handed. They didn't get the initial problem, which was ok, but when it was clarified, they did as little as possible to look into it and, as is usual for WIS, made it the owner's fault. All they did was tell me what I already knew. I would have been perfectly fine with a "we looked into it and we can't see any issue, but we'll log it and be on the lookout for the problem in the future." How hard is that? It could have not even been true, but I'd have been happier.

They always come from the position that you made a mistake or simply don't know the game (as is the situation in HD whenever a send a ticket, despite 6 years of playing I routinely get a synopsis of the FAQ as a first response). That is my primary issue. The original problem with the owner dumping the players took so long to resolve due to this approach that by the time they finally agreed there was an issue, it was too late to do anything about it.
