It makes no sense to me that a gamemaker would create a "useless" rating or that they'd opt to invert 1 rating to lessen confusion (if IRC, from a CS response).  I'd imagine that a player's temperament in conjunction with the way they're being disciplined, the patience of the player and coach along with the coach's strategy and player's makeup all contribute somehow (length? rate?) to the "standard" development process.

Though not useless (IMO), it is certainly secondary to the ratings that dictate performance.  I usually only use it as a tiebreaker when ranking seemingly even draft prospects.  To a lesser extent I also try to pair my better prospects that have a Carlos Zambrano-like temper (whether that is 0 or 100) with coaches that have higher patience/discipline.

I think push/pull  can be one of those missing link numbers but I'm really just starting to study it. For instance, a hitter with 60 power that pulls the ball may hit more homeruns than a guy with 80 power and a push/pull of 50. My current theory is that a number close to 50 improves average. Numbers closer to the other extremes (0 or 99) improve power. Yes even 99. Because if a guy is spraying the ball constantly down the RF line it still leaves him less distance to travel to go yard. I am just starting to study push/pull. If anyone else wants to mention anything I'd love to read it. I don't agree that it's a fairly irrelevant number as some say. I just don't fully understand the relevance yet.
