Florida seeded ahead of Kentucky is an absolute joke
I'm not impressed by either, tbh
Let's look at the numbers here
               Florida     Kentucky
W-L          25-6          23-8
RPI             8                9
SOS           6                9
R/N          11-3           8-8
Top 50    11-2           8-5
L12          10-2           8-4

Kentucky just beat Florida twice in a week and a half. And why use last 12 games? Completely random statistic. I'm more upset that Florida got a 2 seed an UK a 4. Should both be 3's IMO.

I'm just putting numbers up. Notice I had Florida just one line ahead of Kentucky. And I don't know the status of the player that rolled his ankle. Last 12 isn't completely random, that's roughly the past month. Not one of those are a perfect stat to go off of, but when you put them all together, Florida has a slight edge, thus me putting them one spot ahead of Kentucky, which happened to be 1 seed different. I would be ok with them both being 3s.

Your statistics are wrong, by the way. UK has RPI of 7, UF has RPI of 8. UF is a very good team, but two seeds higher than UK? nope. UK is ranked ahead of UF in both polls and has head-to-head advantage on the season.

Me saying 'absolute joke' was bad word choice. But it's pretty hard to justify UF being seeded two seeds higher while UK got the lowest 4 seed in the tournament.

If they are wrong, I apologize. Those were the stats as of Sunday when I made this.

Oh, and when I made my first post in this thread, it was directed at the real life bracket and not at yours. Yours is much more justifiable
3/14/2011 5:21 PM
It's ok. I kinda think mine are better (by a lot) than real life, but there's nothing I can do about that.
3/14/2011 5:23 PM
I like yours better as well. I do still think UK and UF should be switched, but you can chalk that up to me being a homer. I'm not big on BYU or SDSU, either.

I don't think either of them are as good as their seeds, but they earned it imo. In a season when not a lot of teams played well all year, they did. I don't think UAB and VCU deserve to be anywhere in the field, as much as I like mid-majors. I would've rather have seen Harvard in than either of those teams. Throw USC in there as well.

Hard to say they 'earned' their seeds by beating up on scrubs and each other, but I'm not surprised at all at the seeds they got. And Jimmer is obviously unreal.
3/14/2011 5:38 PM
They lost a cominbed 6 games and each had top 5 RPIs. Hard to argue too much. And the Jimmer is amazing.

Just curious, of those not high on SDSU and/or BYU, how many times did you see them play, other than against each other?
3/14/2011 5:53 PM
Very few of their games are on tv, so I'm sure you know the answer to that question. But do you think either team would beat any of te other top 4 seeds on a neutral court? I don't.

And their RPIs are so good because their records are inflated from their schedules.

I have the sports pack on directv so they were on once in a while. I saw all 3 games against each other, then at least 2 other SDSU games and 2 other BYU games. I think they could beat some of the other teams, but I do have them both losing pretty early in my first bracket.
3/14/2011 6:02 PM
I had access to many of their games on television.  I followed the MWC more closely than most this season.  At the same time, I didn't follow some of the bigger conferences as closely as others.  That's why it's hard to make these comparisons, unless your full time job is to watch basketball games.  Mine isn't.

I saw Pitt play a few times, I think SDSU could beat them on a neutral court, and maybe BYU could, if things were clicking just right.  I also think that SDSU could potentially do the same to Ohio State.  Duke and Kansas would be tougher.

A lot of it's the East coast bias, which is hard to blame because that's what ESPN and CBS like to broadcast nationally.  I guess we'll find out for sure in the next couple of weeks.
