Ron Hunter is a great hire for Georgia State.  The CAA keeps getting better.  But, the biggest news is the coaching change that didn't happen.  Richmond signing Chris Mooney to a 10-year extension is similar to the deal that Brad Stevens signed to stay at Butler.  Good for Richmond and Mooney!  It seems like the upper echelon mid major conferences are becoming more like destinations than the feeder leagues they once were.  There is still pilfering, but the ability of places like Northern Iowa, Richmond, and Butler to keep their coaches is an emerging trend. It will be interesting to see what happens with Greg McDermott at Creighton, as they apear to be on the verge of having a good run in the MVC.  McDermott bolted the MVC for the Big 12 once already and ended up back in the MVC. If he has another run of success in the MVC, it is more likely he will stay put since Creighton is a great situation and his mediocre performance at Iowa State will make him less attractive to another power conference program.  The feeder league status has been kicked down a level to the low major conferences like the Summit (Ron Hunter) and, I imagine Mike Lonnergan (America East) will be pried away from Vermont soon.

Xavier is another example. Chris Mack is a local boy..played ball for a  Cincinnati high school and at Xavier.  They hope to  keep him a long time.  They lost Sean Miller to Arizona;  Thad Matta to Ohio State, Skip Prosser to Wake Forest; Pete Gillen to Virginia, and Bob Staak to Wake Forest.

People sometimes forget that, when John Thompson went to Georgetown, it was a mid-major (or worse)  'loser job'.  He built the program and stayed.

Dayton's Brian Gregory to Georgia Tech?

I believe Dayton has finished higher than seventh in the A-10 once in the past six seasons.  Interesting resume for an ACC job.

Tech isn't a good job anymore, at all.

I'd love to sse my alma mater, Loyola (IL), bring in home-town boy Chris Collins from Duke. No idea if he's ready or not, or if he'd even be interested, I just like the name and the pedigree.

Matt Painter (Purdue) is meeting with Missouri today.

Esteemed former Purdue coach Gene Keady told CBSSports.com that he believes Painter will stay but the university must show its commitment.

"Matt wants a situation where he will be able to make a run for a national championship," Keady said. "The administration here has to step up and help him."

I wonder what Keady meant?  Purdue was Sweet 16 in 2010 and would've been one of the favorites in 2011 if not for the injury to Hummel.

Coach Rice is a very overachieving recruiter and a great guy as well (seriously, everyone from the administration to the media really love him).

I wish him the best of luck.

Didn't Rice have an incident where he was suspended for going into the crowd a few years back?

NORMAL, Ill. (Jan 11, 1997 - 17:01 EST) -- An assistant basketball coach at Illinois State who
charged into the stands after a fan has been suspended with pay for one game.

As a result, King Rice will sit out Sunday's game against Southern Illinois. He left the bench during
Thursday night's overtime loss to Northern Iowa after exchanging words with a fan.

"This is an unfortunate and disturbing incident," head coach Kevin Stallings said in a statement.
"While I can appreciate how difficult it is to listen to biting criticism, it is never appropriate to engage argumentatively with our fans or to leave the bench area to deal with issues of this nature."
