And you get a nice 2004 Duckhorn Vineyards Howell Mountain Napa red if you have a men's room story of your own.  :-)

I played catch with Steve Largent's kid at a beach in Kirkland, WA.  This was 1989 or 1990.  Steve was the nicest celebrity I've ever met.

Another tale from Kirkland, WA.  I met Tim Lincecum's dad outside a bar after closing time.  Real nice guy.  Even bummed a smoke from him!

Last week along the 15th fairway at Plainfield CC (site of the Barclays) I ended up in an adjoining port-a-john to Mike "Fluff" Cowan.  I've met 2 other non-sports figures at adjoining urinals: Gerald McRaney (Rick Simon), during intermission of "The Merchant of Venice" at Royal Shakespeare Theatre in Stratford-upon-Avon, and Gavin McLeod (Captain Stubing) during a wedding at the Plaza Hotel in NYC.  Not sure which of those last two is more random...although seeing Murray Slaughter do the chicken dance with Georgette Franklin and Rhoda Morgenstern 20 years after Mary Tyler Moore last aired was pretty funny.

On the non-bathroom side, I once almost threw up on Billy Crystal while waiting to cross the street in Evanston, Illinois.  It was 7am on a Sunday, he was touring campus while visiting his daughter, and I was just on my way back to my room after a loooong night out on Rush & Division.  Ashamed to say I did not recognize him at first in my bleary haze, but after he gave me a friendly hello, I unfortunately responded with a half-swallowed beery belch, an unsteady flash of recognition, and the first comment that came into my head: (if memory serves, it was something like this) "I know you.  Hey, wow, you're not that tall, eh?"  I do not recall him responding in any way, other than to cross the street immediately.

I am not proud of my college years...

As a sommelier at an upscale restaurant in Beverly Hills, I've met plenty of athletes and I can honestly say they've been wonderful - running the gamut from 'just one of the guys' to freakin' hysterical.  I definitely echo the sentiments mentioned earlier about Barkley: great guy.

And Micki, next time you're in LA let me intoruduce you to the subtle majesty of pinot noir (although the Duckhorn Howell Mountain Merlot mentioned above is an excellent suggestion!).

I typed the whole story and then deleted it. Sorry. One of the deals with being in the position I was in was to keep my mouth shut. Even after 27 years. You never know this post might make it to another post and then the next thing I got newscrews outside my door. I have no desire to be famous and I got plenty of money, so no thanks.

Suffice to say that Tommy kicked th sh*t out of a guy that had done something really bad to me.

As for a bathroom story...can't name names, but it was the early '80's and I did alot of cocaine with celebs in bathrooms.

and as for truemen calling me a tease....if you only knew Mormon boy, if you only knew

I used to work with Alan Ashby. We has some nice discussions concerning the Astros and their baseball scuffing abilities. You can look at Nolan Ryan's strikeouts per 9 innings and tell when he started scuffing.

When I was a child, sports figures were more accessible than they seem to be today. Til Hodges was a regular at CYO events, and John Candelaria was a pitcher whom I caught in grammar school. I met nolan Ryan in greensboro, nc, when he was a rep for wrangler. I was at a corporate week end bash, and they rented a speed gun from me. They were giving prizes to employees based on how fast they threw. My best friend was not present, but was celebrating 7 years of sobriety that very day. After everything was over. And Ryan had been signing for hours. I mentioned to nolan this. He grabbed a life size poster and wrote several sentences to my friend, he tbanked me!!
