Wow. Stay classy.

What are you talking about, Colonels? nc forgot to re-up. It had nothing to do with the redshirt. There is no gaming of the system here. He knows that he was the one who forgot to re-up.
9/2/2011 10:02 PM
It's easier to get a non-freshman to take a redshirt if you do it pre-recruiting.

Yeah, so you forgot to re-up, now own the consequences of your actions...if you lose your team because YOU FORGOT TO RE-UP, that's your fault...better to be proactive than reactive...telling everyone to not apply because he's forgetful is terribly weak.

Seriously?  Wow.

The guy has been at that school for more than 30 seasons and just simply forgot to re-up and it is weak to ask people to let him have his team back?  Frankly CS should give it back to him.  Period.  It would be a real a-hole move to take the job if you knew he wanted it back.

The moral of the story here is, don't forget to renew your treasured team of 30+ seasons...I mean hell, what's wrong with personal accountability?  He forgot to renew, so he should have to pay the consequences for his actions and/or have to fight for his team, had he simply renewed his beloved team before the deadline, he wouldn't have to stoop to such measures to "retain" his team.  I know you guys are thinking that I'm being harsh, but if he did what he was supposed to do, he wouldn't have to BEG and ask people to NOT COMPETE for "his" team/job...you care about your damn team so much....you should know better than to let the renewal slip, right?  Yeah **** happens, but be accountable.

To me, it looks like this guy is being pretty resourceful by posting instead of just complaining.

Trevor, usually I end up taking your side when you go against the crowd (even if it's just a sitemail to let you know I agree), but I gotta disagree with you on this one.  Yes, personal accountability should be taken into consideration, but come on man, it's an online basketball game.  Not that big of a deal really.  The man (if you're a woman I apologize) asked the community politely to leave the team alone so he could resume coaching it.  I'd probably feel a little different if he'd only been there a season or two, but in this case, personal acountability aside, I think he handled the situation correctly and since he's been there since the beginning of time, the right thing to do is to let him have his team back.  So he forgot to re-up, it happens from time to time, nothing to get all bent out of shape about.  Had he come into the forums and been an *** about it, my viewpoint would have certainly been different, but I thought NC did things the right way.  Just my personal opinion.......

I see "personal accountability" in a different light. When a person makes a mistake, he/she admits it, especially to himself.  Personal accountability doesn't mean  wallowing in your punishment.  No!  It also  includes doing everything in your power to make the situation better for everyone affected, including yourself. . Sometimes that includes the admission that you can't "fix it" alone. It's admirable to set aside personal pride and humbly ask for help.  In fact, it's very selfish to do otherwise. Nothing is more gratifying than to help another person. Let ME decide if I can help you. Don't decide FOR me by not asking.

Josh handled this situation perfectly.

1) He admitted his mistake
2) He asked for help.
3) He gave mduncandogs an opportunity to be helpful
4) The situation was resolved

Thanks for the kind words guys. And to mduncanhogs for gracefully stepping back. I got the job back. Cheers to good sportsmanship. I'd like to think I'd be as nice in the same situation...

Josh

I give people free **** back at my job all the time, it's what I do, with that said, he should have had to fight for the job.  The noble person understands that they made a mistake and suffers the consequences of their actions/lack of actions in a situation...it doesn't really matter why he didn't re-up, bottom line is he should have done it and he didn't...people just want to live in a world nowadays where there's no right or wrong, just one big gray area where consequences may or may not apply.  And he didn't ASK anyone anything, he BEGGED and TOLD, but he didn't ASK people to remove their bids...I just don't see why the job shouldn't have been fair game because the guy forgot to renew, and the reason that he forgot to renew is irrelevant...own up to the consequences of your "mistakes", the end.

This is almost as ridiculous as people trying to circumvent the block of whatifsports.com at their places of business, arguing that their companies didn't really intend to block such sites...GMAFB...again, man up.

Such anger over something so insignificant.  Have you had a medical screening lately?
9/3/2011 10:35 AM
Or,

I made a mistake, realized it, and took the proper steps to remedy it (paid, applied). Upon deciding there was more I could do (CS ticket, Forum post) to rectify my mistake and get my team back, I did it. And it worked, because mduncanhogs happened to see this Forum post, and most people are a lot nicer than Trevor.

Sorry if I used a "." instead of a "?"-- thought my post was very nice, though. No threats to quit forever, no ******** about CS... I just tried out a tactic that wasn't standard in my effort to leave no stone unturned. The job was fair game- CS told me "other people have applied, you'll have to go through the jobs process", and I did. I'm pretty sure my 600+ wins would have beaten out mduncan's 17 in the process, but if someone with a great history had taken the job, I'd have said "that's a shame" and gone to our rival conference and tried to beat them.

I never insulted anyone or said I deserved the team back. I laid it out and asked for some kindness and decency. Lo and behold, it came through.
