it may not disappear per se, but they will always have an uphill battle in order to fill.  At the rate they are going it will be an open world for a long time to come.

And Hunter takes the lead! 19 openings to 18... ABU grabs a new owner and Hunter loses another. It's anybody's game.

What you will see is people jumping in to grab one of the super teams as soon as one opens up..

Why do you care?
Cuz he wants a new world created that he can join and start "from scratch". :)

I find the two leagues to be quite hilarious.  In each one the top 10% teams are adamant about not merging for the sake of "world history" that is apparently very valuable to incoming recruits.  So instead of trying to save their super teams they are willing to sit idly and watch the league disappear.  It's like if someone on the Titanic refused to get off because their state room was the best on the ship and it would be stupid to give that up!
This is a great comparison.

Hunter was a good world. It had low turnover for several years and it was tough to win because each year, you had about 10 teams with good chance of winning it all. But last two or three rollovers, we when public to fill 2 or 3 spots, and unfortunately, they all left during the same rollover, this one. It is clear customers are either decreasing the number of teams, or simply leaving WIS after they came out and told us we weren't a priority. Lots of teams open, wrong timing. I just left Hunter, because I find it silly to waste money while waiting for something to happen. But I find it sad to leave a good team I liked.

Here's an idea.  Can't wait for it to be trashed.

HBD should create a logo or some status on a profile page that symbolizes that this player Won a world.  Can be more than one award for a world.

It will be given to an owner who dominated in a world to the point that 31 other people won't play with them any more in that world.  If a world doesn't fill in 1-2 months, or has more than 15 openings, the prize is awarded to the worthy owners.

World is closed.  Everybody gets a 1-season credit.

Consider it the highest prize that can be achieved in WIS.

Having this many openings is killing them, and they don't seem to know or care. This would give them at least a positive spin on something they should be doing anyway.

Great idea. We could call it the Walter White Award.

For what it's worth, I'm in Hunter and have expressed a desire to merge a number of times, but I guess I'm being ignored.  I'm only holding on because it's my original HBD team (from the day HBD opened).  I have 2 other teams to keep me busy.  At some point soon, though, I'm giving up and bailing.

on a similar note, Aaron has been siting idle for over a month now.  I spent half a season righting a left for dead ship (and pitching staff), so I check in from time to time.  Its always been public, or at least it was when I took over the team however many seasons ago.  There were a handful of solid owners in there, that had been around for a long time.  Being public it also had its share of jackasserdy, which is why I decided not to stick around despite a couple of young MVP caliber hitters that would have been fun to build around.  They had 6 openings when it rolled, or sometime shortly there after.  A month later, they're at 5.  Some of the solid owners are still there, don't know about the league as a whole, but I always figured a 6 opening public world to fill fairly quickly.  In a month, they've gone from 6 to 5.  I think that speaks to the trouble that WIS is having filling several of its HBD worlds.

I won't preach it but it has to do with the quality of the worlds, IMO.   These worlds that can't fill have allowed themselves to become "unsellable" to the public.   Owners check in, see 2-3 powerhouses, look at the available teams and move in.    Someone looking to play a game on the internet isn't interested in losing for 2 real life years against owners who have spent 4-5 years building teams at the expense of the world.   No one to blame but themselves.

If WIS failed at anything, it's that they've trusted their product quality control to the users.  ie They let worlds run free without any oversight that would have caught some of the early world "diseases" that most of the private world commishes (such as MikeT) have put up defenses to.  I don't think there is a problem filling QUALITY worlds, there is a problem with somewhat crappy worlds being in charge of their own fate.  I don't think anyone expected this from the outset of HBD, but time and experience has shown that worlds need control of some sort or else they'll end up driving themselves into the ground sooner or later.

The qualifications to start a world was "I'm gonna start a world."   Not saying anyone thought anything of it at the time(as it works in SLB) but SLB/HBD are two different beasts.    SLB league sucks and you're done with it 3 months later.   With players having 15 year BL careers in HBD, you're talking 4 real life years.  Acquire 3-4 of them from a bottom feeder and league balance is screwed for 48 months for two teams.  Repeat that with half a dozen teams and you've got 12 unfillable openings.

I think SCU said "It's not the top of the world that defines the quality of the world but the bottom."

I don't understand how worlds can't fill.. My world was given one of the worst bashing's I have ever seen and I rarely have more than 1 or 2 openings after 13+ seasons. This season I had no openings.

My suggestions for preventing worlds with huge numbers of openings:

- Cap the number of worlds.
- Let commissioners run their world at a discount for their effort.
- Commissioners are replaced via a vote if they abdicate their position.
- Give commissioners freedom to boot players who do not check in for a certain number of days.
- Players who take over the abandoned team bust have a certain number of seasons to be eligible.
- Replacement players get the option to "renew" for the a discount (introductory price).
- NO Trades for first season in a new world.
- Increase number of "reminder" and "recommendation" emails for newbies.
- Create training videos for all aspects of the game so its less confusing for new people.

Thats what I have off the top of my head.
