Santo was my backup choice while I hoped Torre would remain available until my #13 pick.  Seems like a huge dropoff after the first 5 picks, and then another small drop after #8.  Now a lot comes down to personal preference.

I managed to take the first non-HOF at #12 with Ron Santo. I felt a little awkward about that as there are at least a dozen HOF's with career time left in the draft, but I felt like Santo was the best player available. Still you would like to have someone more iconic to be the foundation of your team.
I would have picked him #8 overall, so I think getting him at #12 is a steal

I still think there are players out there that I targeted at top 10 picks, so far 4 picks have been made that I wouldn't have looked at till the 2nd round

Yes there was some Chit Chat in my Front Office about Joe Torre not getting picked till #12  But we were only observing this from afar as we knew, that our Organization with its Drafting Position, had no shoot at Torre.  But he was probably passed up by Owners who want to win now and Torre's 61 and 62 numbers are average at best and wouldn't be in the best intrest of an owner who wants to win now.

The guy I was hoping to get at 12 was Clemente. I knew he wouldn't go at 11 so was bummed when he want #10.

Clemente surprised me, I thought he would be a 2nd rounder.  I was hoping Brooks Robinson or Carl Yastrzemski would slide and be available for my #20 pick, but instead they were the first two chosen after my #13.  Guess that was wishful thinking on my part.  Now I wonder if the two or three others I considered before taking Kaline at #20 will be snapped up quickly.

I too had hoped for Yaz. Getting the proxy from Chargingryno with Yaz listed as his number 1 choice at that point of the draft was a dagger to me. I'm not sure if either my #16 or #17 picks (Billy Williams and Maury Wills) are very smart. Both have some length to their careers which is important to me and both bring a different approach to the game with Williams being a good hitter with some pop in his bat but not such a great fielder(range), yet Wills has speed and decent fielding but a weaker bat. I had 7 other players I would have taken. I doubt very much they will be around for my pick in the 3rd round.

I also had Clemente as an early 2nd rounder, but that was probably wishful thinking on my part. Talk about length with Yaz. Great hitter for a long time and a great pick.

I was surprised yaz didn't go earlier, his longevity plus his production put him as a top 10 pick for me.  I agree with Clemente, I thought he was a 2nd rounder, but still a great player to have.  I had Williams as my #2 proxy bheid, so you know I think that was a good pick!

I've got a couple wishfuls for my #3 and #4 picks, lets see if I can get anything close ha

If I could go back, I would've switched my priority on Kaline and Jackson, that would have pretty much solidified my OF for the next 12 years, oh well, I'm content with Jackson's 10, 200IP seasons.

Just Missed Harmon Killebrew by Two Picks-I had the Killer picked a couple of days ago, but I knew as my Pick came closer, that I needed a Plan B, so towards that end, I've been on the hunt all day for a replacement for the Killer.  So its come down to a crabshoot for my Pick.  One good thing about all this is that it doesn't really make much of a difference who jeffnoles picks next before my turn.

outbacker selects Stormin Norm Cash 1B----1961 Averg. .361 HR's 41-This was not an easy pick-But at the end of the day I wanted a Clean Up Hitter to build my Team around.  I gave serious consideration to Vada Pinson who was the next pick after Cash and a couple of other available Players.  But after taking Bob Gibson and looking for the future, I had thought I would build a Team for the future.  However with Stormin Norm's Monster 61 numbers, I'll have to revaluate my future goals.

Cash's '61 season was tough to pass up. We talked to our first-rounder Bunning, and he's asking to pitch around him already. Our 2nd round pick, Curt Flood, is another investment. He was so consistent in the mid 60s. Not flashy stats, but it was between him, Cash and Pinson.

bcoop you are going to have a contentious clubhouse with labor activist Curt Flood and arch-republican congressman Jim Bunning. Might want to draft Yogi next just to keep things light :)

Outbacker I had the same thought when I picked Killebrew. I wanted that force in the middle of the line-up. I just noticed Milt Pappas was picked and I thought he might fall to the next round. Like you Plan C is now in the works.
