Cracks me up.. The guy is new to HBD, he takes on a dogshit team and then he's accused of tanking for assuming that his dog **** team will probably still be fairly ****** after 1 season..
No one was accused of tanking.   But, when you're 45 games into a season and "know" you're getting a top 3 pick next season, something is wrong.

Sometimes **** is **** no matter which direction you look at it..

When you have 117 games left to play, you have a choice between (a) what can I do to improve my team and be competitive over the next 2/3 of the season, or (b) oh, **** it.

The "oh, **** it" people aren't going to get a lot of love here.

I know what you tards are getting at.. The thing is its not very practical to expect a newbie to come in and make big improvements in his 1st season especially when the the team he's inherited is a crap sandwich with the 1st pick. The advice that you give newbies is not to make too many moves your 1st season and allow yourself time to learn the game... With him doing this. It's not a bad assumption that he will have a top pick the following season..

Encouraging someone to "look forward" to a top 3 pick next season isn't very conducive to creating good owners.  10 seasons from now he may decide he wants to join one of my worlds.   I'll see 56 wins followed by 53 wins and say "WTF?"     Then he'll point to a thread like this and say "You guys told me...." if he's encouraged to lose games.

That's why I asked how he knew he'd get a top 3 pick next season.   His response told me what I needed to know as a commish.

FWIW, he may not even know what tanking is.   But, 3 seasons from now, it's gonna look like it ON HIS PERMANENT RECORD!

And the caps were meant to be funny.

6 of 21 replies are actually answering this guys original question, thats pretty awesome

The other 15 might teach him more about HBD and how his gameplay now affects his future options.

So, yeah, it is pretty awesome.

BS.  With 117 games left, a set budget, and no major league talent, there isn't much he could do to win a ton of games.  Should he make a big trade?  Does that make sense? Sign some "impact" free agent floating around that isn't already signed?

I defer to your vast knowledge of HBD.

Nonetheless, there's a lot one can do to lose a lot of games.    That's called tanking.

Or you can defer to my working brain.

"Nonetheless, there's a lot one can do to lose a lot of games."

That's not my point.  We've already established that he took over a horrible team.  Once the season starts, he might be able to pick up a few wins through good management and smart moves, but it's unlikely a new player would be able to pull that off.  To get your panties in a bunch over his assumption that his terrible team would remain terrible for the rest of the season is deserving of ridicule.  Even from another new owner.

I can't answer the original poster's question without seeing:
   1)  Health and makeup ratings on all the players
   2)  Defense, speed, and durability ratings on the position players
   3)  Current ratings, including the above, on all the players.

Bunch panties?  Really?    I simply wanted to know why/how he was planning on a top 3 pick with 117 games left in the season.

Anyway, if you want to make a point, make one.  I'm reasonably familiar with ARomano.  Tanking seems to be acceptable.  Even if he wins 54 games(meaning he kept his current pace), he probably doesn't get a top 3.

Maybe you need to check the batteries on that "working brain" of yours.

Scratch that.  I got his worlds backwards.  He took over a 38 win team that appeared to be abandoned for quite some time.   A little team management goes a long way.
