Somebody always slips through- that is a mathematical certainty.

Extremely annoyed Pippen went the pick in front of me, would it have killed all of you to have him go 2-3 picks in front of me?

The drafts are no longer as nutso frontcourt frontcourt frontcourt as they used to be. I prefer being a contrarian in drafting; if everybody is going to be one then I must change strategies.

Still bothered by the Pippen selection.

Random 1st-Round Observations:

8 of the first 11 picks are forwards or centers (9 if you count Larry Legend, who I maintain should be used as a 2-guard and secondary scoring option though most use him as a 3.  James should be a pg or sg, too, even if he did play SF irl).  All 11 CAN play in the front court.

15 total are front court (again, not counting Bird, James or Erving)

Only 4 guys went whose best season(s) aren't at least 4th tier usage (Rodman, Wallace, Kidd, Lucas).  Only 6 if you say that same statement about 3rd tier usage (adding Wilt & Gilmore to that - though both have excellent 3rd tier or higher usage seasons).

Only 4 guys have defenses below 70 for their top sim seasons (Barkley, Magic, Lucas, Love).  Bird might go here if you used the 87-88 version and went SF with him.

Only 5 guys are only truly playable at one position (Shaq, Wilt, Admiral, Kareem, Gilmore - Center).

That's it for now.

Here's one second round observation thus far... Only 4 of the first 14 picks in the second round are front court players (counting Pierce, tmac, pippen & Durant as 2-guards).

Yeah, I feel pretty good about my Pippen selection and pairing him up with Garnett.

i'm interested in two things about evil's 2nd team... 2-top tier scorers, Wade and Durant... both over 9m each (unless of course you use cheaper seasons, then why draft those guys anyway?) between them, there aren't enough dimes, so, you'll still have to draft a pg which then pushes durant to the no. 3 slot. also, there is 68% usage to think about between 2 guys.

however, that duo is a scoring force, but don't they sort of box evil in, in upcoming picks? usage-wise and position-wise.

i'm diggin' the t-mac, big ben duo. ya gotta give t-mac room to operate, even when he shoots paltry 39-40% games, he'll still score 30 points. big ben will keep cleaning the off-glass for him. nice. i kept debating between t-mac and pierce, but in the end, i liked pierce's 29.9 usage instead of 35%, and of course, pierce's 210-3's. am hoping magic can improve PP's fg%.

ash taking camby was a bit of a surprise for me. i like camby alot in the 52m league, but in the odl, he seems to be more of a 3rd rounder to me. but he is loved by the sim and will out perform his rl dreb total. i would bet on that.

pippen was a good pick, but i hate those players who throw away free points (charity stripe). the season i really like for pippen, he shoots just 67% from the stripe. but there 2 excellent all-around seasons for him, but the better one, he makes only 291 ft's. i place emphasis on team ft%. it lends itself to winning close games more. i know ash loves shaq, but i could never have that guy on my team. same with wilt. wilt rarely wins in this league. don't see a lot of shaq winners either.

yeah, i know, rodman shoots poorly from the stripe too... but he doesn't get there much either.

i agree with dh, gary could've had paul. he went with lucas and ray. haha. not a bad combo though, but paul. wow. dropping that far. a no-brainer.

you can always draft higher ast% 3s, 4s & 5s.  They exist.

yep, they do in fact exist... but, like i said, it's the "boxing-in" thing again.

camby was the one board hoarder around that was 100% at the 4 that had good defense, too.  I have tons of options in the back court, and I'm fairly certain I'll be able to grab one of my 6 guys I'm aiming for in round 5, so I pulled the trigger on Camby.  I could have had slightly more boards at the expense of defense (which in the past, I have done... often), but again... there's a huge difference in Camby's defense and the next several guys I considered for the 4.

I boxed myself in by picking a 100% C only... but I'm okay with that.

I've run the Magic-Pierce combo in an OL.  It was monstrous.  I'm afraid of you already, Scud.  You've got mega boards in the back court and pretty much set on offense already.  Wow.

I would have contemplated taking Dikembe if he had been available to me, or if you had decided to take T-Mac instead of Pierce, I'd have been stuck a bit. One of the things I tend to be good at in team building is defense and out rebounding opponents, everything else tends to be equal, including scoring. So what my previous teams lacked was a legitimate top tier scoring threat. I guess more experimental in taking two top tier players, but far easier now to grab rebounders with lower usage, than top tier scorers with minimal downsides. I guess it is a case of, I'd rather take a premier scoring option that hits 3's, as opposed to a retro ball-hog who turns the ball over four times and fouls just as much with a sub-par defense and limited 3's. Not to mention D-Wade + Durant = 1611 free throw attempts at an 83.5% mark and on the flip side only 4.5 personal fouls combined.

scud if you remember i actually had the wade/durant combo in your master blaster draft league....won 50+ games...the usage wasnt a problem at all and they both killed it from the line...actually as im typing this i just remembered i also had my man ben wallace..soo..umm...yea..guess you cant really compare when you get the perfect non-rodman guy to play with them...****...how did i not win that league?

ill be very curious to see how evil rounds out that team...specifically where he plays wade/durant 's minutes

ps - Wade has 25% ast% by himself.  That's a legitimate PG, folks.
