It's a common, everyday tendency -- people do one thing, something happens, and they assume cause and effect, even if common sense and available information argues otherwise. You know, like someone asks MikeT a question, he treats it as the dumbest question ever, so the person assumes MikeT is a jerk, when in fact the question and questioner both *were* dumber than dirt.

40_dog - Days on the ML roster all count.  If you bring him up for 20 days at the end of this season, you'd have demote him back to the MinL (risking a demotion penalty) and then keep him in the Min L 45 days (25 + 20) next season to get an extra arbitration season.

There are no demotion penalties for roster expansion moves.    Just do it when the regular season ends.

Are promotion viewings cosmetic? When I saw little bumps for promotions I thought this was an encouragement system to bring your players up 4 years in the minors which made sense to me. Are you saying if I draft a guy good enough for the big leagues, and I need him, I can just start him in the Big Leagues and not miss out on any development perks in the minors??

if you promote someone to the majors because a mlb player is going on the dl.....and then demote that player back to the minors when the dl stint is done.....there is no demotion penalty right?

correct, as long as the promotions/demotions are done on the same cycles as the DL moves.
