yes allblack raises a good point nobody has yet. The rankings are useless, especially the early season rankings.

My D2 Tiffin team started the season ranked #4 before going 6-4 in out of conference play, the rankings early on are basically only based on overall ratings which as you will see explained 1000 times in the forum are pretty useless as well in terms of finding the best teams.

Rankings are useless, and you, like a lot of other new coaches, seem to be enamored with overall ratings.... the overall is very insignificant if you have a player with 100 DUR/STA/WE and low cores. Before you complain like this, do some reading in the forums (especially the guide for D2 and D3 coaches brought to you by aejones), and then you'll understand things better.

Also, your team went 9-1 in non-conference. You claimed that "this game is a joke" because you lost one game to a team that is very similar in talent level to yours. So I wouldn't be upset because of this, and even if you were marginally better than them, upsets happen. I've had much more talented teams lose to much less talented teams.... it happens. You are overreacting to this one loss and a few conference losses as well. (You should know that unlike real life, especially in D3, home court advantage is not a factor in this game. In D1 it plays a bigger role, but in D3 treat a home game the same as an away game. Whether you are home or away shouldn't alter your expectations for a given game.)

The game will last... people love it. So either stay upset and leave, or learn the game, get better at it, and enjoy it.

a coach who has been here for a season and a half griping about losing to first year coaches....

thats funny.

I agree about the ratings. My team has won 3 of the last 5 NTs in Crum, and is highly ranked again. But my overall ratings are 9 points less than your team.

My guard, Bennett, is  619 but the points are in important areas, not REB, LP, or DUR

This is going to come off dickish, but it's really more curiosity.

This is all it takes to have a championship-caliber team in Crum?

Granted, I only play Wooden D3, but I don't see this team making the Sweet Sixteen in Wooden.  Maybe I'm wrong, I usually am.

Assuming I'm right, it doesn't mean that you aren't strong relative to the competition.  Is Crum D2 so good that they scoop up all potential dropdowns? Is Crum D3 really bad? Both?
5/22/2012 10:30 AM
I don't have a team in Wooden but I understand that it's a strong D3 world.  There are 127 D3 coaches in Crum.

I don't think this team will win the title, either.  I won last season but lost 3 strong seniors from that squad.  My graduating PG was 8th all-time for school assists.  My center was 7th in scoring, 4th in REB, 4th in blocks, and 4th in FG %.

We're currently 9-3, RPI 2, SOS 1.  We lost to the #1, #6 and #8 ranked RPI teams

Gotcha.  I just saw the high RPI and five seniors and assumed this was another title contender.

I do honestly appreciate the responses. I get I'd get waxed against a power house but my conference teams aren't great. Read the post in entirely. The 3 losses at home to losing to 2 lower teams on the road. The thing that's ticks me off the most is whatifs careless responses and they think people are goin to stick with this game? Obviously the similar thought I was good enough to be ranked for 10 weeks to only bend me over in conference. I could handle 12-9 in a tough conference but to many losses I couldn't disagree with more. I have read a ton of forums and I get I lack some in athleticism, but compare it to my competition and not last yrs national champ.
kyle, the rankings have been screwed up for a long time.  Getting off to a great start, even against mediocre competition, will often get you ranked. But it's not always a true indication of your team's strength.

I'm a successful coach now, but one of my early teams started out 2-1, then lost 24 straight.

WIS customer service is only 1 or 2 people. They aren't able to individually  teach each coach what they need to learn. The better sources, anyway, are those coaches who've played the game for a long time. If you're reading their posts, especially 'winning at D2 and D3', you'll be fine,  Just be patient and try to ignore the inexplicably rude comments you may see here.
+1, and + an extra million for saying it nicely

kyle, you are 100% correct, CS here sucks. in fact, that is probably the only thing you can say without someone disagreeing with you :) however - its not their job to tell you what is wrong with a specific team. i mean think about it, what if your team went on to a deep run, would that be fair to the coaches you beat along the way? CS doesn't want to pick winners and losers, and they shouldn't. however, they should give you the same good advice you saw in (half of) the posts here.

come to the forums, or ask questions in conf if you have some good conference mates. you can post your whole team, with a "whats wrong here", if you really are struggling to understand. or you can ask specific questions, why is this player out rebounding that player, etc... and you will find a TON of good information if you simply read other things people are posting, even if you don't post yourself. the thread winning at d2 and d3, by probably the most successful d2/d3 coach over the past year or two, is a fantastic place to start.

finally, you are way to new to this game to be upset about being 15-6 or whatever it is. if only the other new coaches could be so lucky! that is not bad at all, is all im saying :) i second all the suggestions about joining a good conference and getting killed a few seasons, till you figure **** out, if you would grow faster in that kind of environment (i loved it when i started, you don't learn from winning!). and also about getting a mentor. this game can definitely be frustrating, but believe me, it gets worse :) its worth it though, all in all.

...well I hope they get it...

Every team you lost to had equal to or greater than your level of ath.  That's a lot of your issues.

i dont think anyone is comparing to the national champs, if they did, they'd be saying, you should lose by 20, every game. don't take that the wrong way. look at your big men, in this game, they are unplayable with that athleticism. washington is passable but thats it. even bohan really never can exceed mediocre, and that is a sentiment 80+ % of coaches would agree with. im not trying to be mean, just trying to tell you like it is (i meant to post under coach_billyg again, so this was just a follow up to tell you a bit about your team, instead of just the inspecific stuff earlier). guards can be good, even great, without good ath, but bigs are totally centered around their athleticism, it affects EVERYTHING they do. without it, you cant be a good defender, scorer, or rebounder. however, it alone won't make you good at any of those things. especially in d3, you really need to learn which ratings are most important, focus on them, and largely ignore the others - people call them them the core ratings - ath is vital for bigs, and reb (need both minimally), and then maybe defense. if all you have is good ath, reb, and def, in a big, you are going to be better off than most bigs out there. guards, focus on ath/spd/def/bh/pass, and per for scorers. nothing else really matters until you get to the next level of the game, although, you have to have passable stamina or your players will be sagging early in the game, and suck the rest of the game. especially playing man to man defense, ath/def are going to be the keys to a great team. you have a couple solid guards for d3 but no stars. in a really tough conference, that team wouldn't be 12-9, you'd have to be a damn good coach to win 4 games in all of conference play and could go 0-16. thats just the reality, its a good thing, means there is a lot more to this game than a 1.5 season old coach might know. it doesn't all follow real life either, so you can't expect that - in real life, you can have a player like Josh Harrelson from kentucky, graduated last year, not athletic, but works his *** off and can be a HUGE player. but not in HD. but it does speak to the depth of the sim engine that you can have such a disparity in teams coached by humans, and surely, HD does.

Appreciate the responses. I have another team on another name in iba. That's in yr 2. so I have been able to see more than just this team.

I think the bigger surprise is that you stayed within 10 of Lynchburg they're significantly better then you.  And if you have a 2nd yr team in another world you still aren't very experienced.  Billyg and al have 23 championships between them you should probably listen to them.  Losing streaks happen and they suck but you shouldn't of been a heavy favorite in any of those games.  You need to focus strongly on ath and defense.

not that it matters, but this is my account, too. i haven't played this account in a while though, until just recently, picked up a struggling colorado, my first big 6 school, where i won my first d1 tourney game. i figured it would bring back good memories, but sadly, i have totally butchered them thus far :) i just don't want people seeing my d2 account (coach_billyg) and thinking im another d1 hatin' freak, like alblack over there ;) no but really... d1 sucks, except for recruiting, which also sucks, at least right now.
