LH specialist? Topic

I AM CURRENTLY USING THE LHS. I USE A LESS THAN 30 IP PITCHER WHO I FILLED OUT MY 25 MAN ROSTER WITH AND THIS TIME IT'S WORKING WELL ENOUGH.
AFTER 57 GAMES, HERE ARE THE LHS STATS: G   IP     W  L   SAV   ERA  OAV   WHIP    K/9   BB/9     LHB    RHB
                                                                                  19  8.0    2-  0      0    2.25    .310   1.13      4.50    0.00   .227     .571

THE STATS OF AVERAGES VS. RHB OR LHB IS FOUND IN THE REGULAR SEASON STATS TAB, AS MOST PROBABLY ALREADY KNOW. THE SAME TYPE OF STAT IS AVAILABLE FOR HITTERS VS. LHP AND RHP. ALSO FOR TEAM STATS.

HOW WELL OR POORLY A LHS DOES IS DIRECTLY RELATED, I THINK TO THE OVER ALL TEAM PERFORMANCE, IN ADDITION TO HIS INDIVIDUAL EFFECTIVENESS. THEY WILL END UP FACING RHB SOME, AND IT'S PROBABLY OUT OF THE MANAGER'S CONTROL. SO FAR THIS SEASON, THE TEAM IS 38-19, SO I AM NOT TOTALLY SURPRISED BY THE STATS OF THE LHS, BUT I AM PLEASED.

Somewhat off topic, I have had a lot of difficulty learning how to manage a pitching staff in this game. I think I am accurate in saying that every setting has potential, and it was usually my own assumptions that undermined my plans. A LH or RH specialists can be useful. For example, suppose you draft Milacki or Blue, set them to appropriate specialist role, set their max PC to 10, and don't allow them into the game until the 8th inning. They will come in on occasion when you might have preferred they didn't, but they will come in on many ideal occasions. We have to learn how to game the game. There ought to be a few more controls for this kind of thing, but...

FWIW I usually overuse the "specialists"... I set those 25-30IP guys on any inning, 10 pc max, and set their fatigue above 90...they get plenty of appearances...I've never had a problem getting max use out of them. they can also spell the closer in a pinch.
This is how I use it, but instead of an expesive person I use a cheap person to get 50 games and 35 inning from less than say $450K.  It really helps if you are one of those guys who like to have his innings drafted closer to 1200IP than 1400IP.  Some examples I use:
'88 Randy Johnson (prob most effective)
'15 Lefty George
'89 Bob Patterson
'74 Paul Siebert (one I use the most-isn't terrible in this role for only $384K)

I use '69 Skip Gunn as my LH specialist. 27ip, $208/k.  Set him to come in anytime with a pull setting of 5.  he either strikes the batter out or gives up a walk. 5-10 pitch count

Use him till he gets tired then dump him on the waiver wire.  I don't think he has ever made it past 50 games on my team.

I put guys in the lefthand specialist role when i want to save them up a bit for the stretch run or the playoffs.  Seems like they never get inserted into the game, so it's just like putting them on rest.

I set him at a 5 - 5 pitch count, so on the rare occasion Sparky does put him in, he can only face the LH batter he's been inserted to face, and not the righthanded batter who follows...

You know I wanted to try that with the $270K Dick Radatz.  With only a .192 OBA  It should be a walk or an out.  You would only play him in a park suppresed with minus HR though.
