OK, sorry, got my meets confused (I guess I'm human after all).  I was combining the Siestre meet in '92, when Powell's 8.99 meter jump was wind-aided and Ivan Pedroso's 8.96 was originally the record, but they couldn't prove it wasn't wind-aided; with the '91 US meet where Lewis's earlier record breaking jump was wind-aided.  Somehow, I combined those and came up with something completely unrelated.  I really should look things up before posting; the memory's not as sharp as it useta be ...

Yes, I guess if the bar is set low enough Honus Wagner, Carl Yastrzemski, Willie Mays, and Tris Speaker, oh, yes and Derek Jeter, followed by Cal Ripken, George Brett and Robin Yount and Tony Gwynn, can qualify.
It's not that the bar is set too low or too high -- it's that it's set exactly to Derek Jeter's specifications, ha ha.

Look, if you lowered the HR total in your first post from 250 to 230, Paul Molitor could join Mays and Jeter in that little club.  And if you then raised the RBI total from 1200 to 1300, Jeter would be kicked out of that club, and it would be just Molitor and Mays.

"Molitor joins Willie Mays as the only players with 3,000 hits, 230 home runs, 300 stolen bases and 1,300 runs batted in."

Jeter is 12th all time in hits but 7th all time in singles.  That tempers it a little bit...

Notice Jeter has played FEWER seasons than everyone else on this list of most career hits, except for Wade Boggs, who played the same number as Jeter has up to now and ended up with 247 FEWER hits over the same number of seasons - gee, I guess that is what longevity gets you. Namely a full, all-star season worth of hits FEWER than Derek Jeter over the same number of seasons.
Wade Boggs career slash line - .328/.415/.443 OPS+ 131, 1412 walks
Derek Jeter career slash line - .313/.382/.449 OPS+ 118, 1024 walks

I'll take the Boggs line any day of the week.  247 fewer hits, 388 more walks = 141 more times on base.
This isn't even close when you consider Boggs played in a much tougher era for hitters (as OPS+ indicates).  Also consider that Jeter is a really bad defensive shortstop.

OK, I'll open the obvious can of worms; should Rose be in the Hall of Fame?
YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSS

I think Rose and Joe Jackson and Eddie Cicotte should be in the Hall.  Fine, don't let Rose coach anymore.  Don't let him associate with any MLB organization in any way.  I get that.  But he belongs in the Hall.
