I'm not getting into a ******* match with you, shoenberg.

bruins, I'm not familiar with the content of that spreadsheet.   What exactly did it consist of?
10/16/2012 12:10 PM
Found it.   I'll list it under "Help spreadsheets".

My issue is also time, but I believe that if WIS made a spreadsheet similar to that of maddiesdad widely available, the time it takes to manage a team would be drastically reduced. So, my suggestion is just that: a player spreadsheet that is easy to find.

WIS has repeatedly said in the past that they would not be willing to make enhancements to the game that could give any advantage to those who are more computer savvy than others.  That's why they've resisted making any changes that involve exporting or importing information to/from spreadsheets.  Being able to export draft prospects to a spreadhseet, reorder the prospects any way you want via your own formulas, and then importing your prospect rankings back to the draft prospect page was one suggestion that they specifically shot down with that explanation.

People have figured out how to do a lot of that stuff anyway, but as long as WIS is not directly providing the capability, they can wash their hands of it.

Yes, I think, that, in fact, will never happen.   But rather than shoot down ideas on what would entice owners to add a team, I'll just list them.    As I said with shoenberg, I have no intention of letting this turn into a ******* match.    And that's what will happen as soon as someone says "Well, that's just dumb."

FWIW, I'm in 5 worlds and use spreadsheets with three different formulas.    One size doesn't fit all.

My major issue is time, not money.  If games simmed twice a day rather than three times a day, I think that would be the only thing to help me add another team.  But I'm pretty sure that's not an option.

I mentioned in another thread that there is a 4 day period where you have to be able to check in during the day.   Not sure changing from 6 half cycles to 4 would solve a problem but I believe I've seen more requests for accelerated worlds than slower sims.

MikeT - Have you ever played http://www.sportsmogul.com/games.html ?  I am not advocating this game by any means.  The software is really glitchie, CS is slow at best and a good league is nearly impossible to keep together (lots of work for the commish and difficult data exchanges) and figuing out what the seondary ratings are is impossible.    That said the game has some neat features and good simmie settings.  My perfect game would be if Sportsmogul and HBD had a baby put it in a new wraper and charged $15 per season.

Baseball Mogul a long time ago.   Probably around the same time I discovered WifS.

Yeah, baseball mogul is a pretty good game -- it does something that I think that HBD does very well, which is combine simplicity and complexity. One objection to games like Diamond Mind and OOTP is that there's a pretty severe learning curve to certain aspects of the game.

Growth is too pedictable. I do not want 1st round busts and more DITR but some players could deveolp quickly and peak early and some could be late bloomers and grow more after seaon 3 or 4.

On DITR if kept they need to rework the formula so that it is not based on just overall rating.
I'm not sure if this would encourage me to add another team, but I admit I'm getting a little bored with HBD, in part due to the predictable development patterns. (I agree with you re: draft busts and adding/tweaking DITR.) The cost is part of it, simply because I've added a couple of somewhat expensive hobbies since I began playing this game, and my discretionary income has limits. A more "intelligent" or advanced way to manage my minors would likely keep me from dropping one of the teams I've currently got.

From memory, the worst part about HBD was the sense of being overwhelmed immediately.   A lot going on your first day and you don't know jackshit.

Hey Mike T,

I hate to use this one as the first one but it is honestly the main reason - Money.  Very hard to justify a fourth or fifth team for the price.  I am not suggesting a flat out lower fee (which would be great) but maybe different incentives.  As an example, year 1 - 5 (based on ownership of team) is X dollars.  5-10 years with team would be X minus 15%.  10-15 would be X minus 20% of cost.  this would incent people to stay and own a team longer.  Longer people own teams...harder for people to "let them go"...keeping leagues around successfully.  Or do it based on number of seasons Total.  1-10 seasons Total is full boat (across all teams), 10-20 historic season X minus 15% of cost...ect... Last recommendation on this topic - for every 5 Season, get a free one.  if i know i have a potential for a free team with "hanging in there" and also the current credits received for success - i would get one or two more.

i think the historical data keeps me around because i want my guys to end up on the "player records".  if i had a player that i know will end up in the leader board next season that i drafted and "raised"...it would motivate me to buy other season.  as an example - historical stats by position (all time doubles leader playing second base).  might make me buy another team b/c people would stay around longer / less time between season conversions.

hope this helps.

You do get a $5 or $10 credit for sticking around 5 seasons(every 5th season).
