It used to be possible to compete from the mid majors. I'm not sure it is any more. There just doesn't seem to be many good recruits that fall through the cracks any more.
Rupp C-USA has earned over $300,000 recruiting cash for something like 6 of the last 7 seasons.
They have put 9-12 teams in the post-season most of those seasons.
There are only about 2-3 teams above a B+ in prestige.
They have been either #1 or #2 in Conference RPI for probably 6 of those 7 seasons.
They have had multiple Final 4 teams and a couple seasons back Marshall won the NT Championship.
These facts prove Mid Majors can compete.
They also prove you don't have to have half of the conference be A+ prestige schools to be competetive.
You do need a full conference of comitted coaches who have some sort of a clue on how to recruit and play with the big-boyz.
The game is not broken. It just takes a little luck, some skill, and alot of effort.
