signed him the first signing cycle... it wasn't the guy i was battling for either (which i won i might add lol)  it was biggerstaff the big center... actually, the guy that i was battling for.. he dropped down to me after already considering the other d2 team with a A- prestige (i think).   very satisfied with this recruiting season.
OK, so do you know if the guy immediately recruitable when you first asked your question?  What effort did you put in after your original message on this thread?

the big guy was giving me the backup response. So I scouted the crap out of him. Then I came on here, got feedback... I gave the guy a campus visit and I was considered. Home visit after that. And it was money in the bag

I find it interesting that you had pulled him down but he wasn't considering you.  I don't think I've had that happen before when the player isn't considering another school already.

it was very odd... that's how and why i ended up here. lol

it took a campus visit to get him to consider, then just an additional home visit to lock him in... but man.... i threw a ton of ST's at him.. right around 20, which for my budget, was a ton... but it worked out great... i spent every dollar i have but i signed all 3 people that i wanted to sign.

BTW, I gave him a thumbs up after he made a great play, he gave me a big smile - I really think he'll be playing for us next year.

I sat next to his uncle at the game and I got the impression that we have a great shot to sign this kid. I think his exact were words were 'you have a great shot to sign this kid'.
Those sure sound a hell of a lot like a recruit who has already dropped.  Have you called his coach lately?
These 2 messages, along with "Overall, I think a DII school would be lucky to get him, otherwise he'll probably thrive in a low Division I program" are what have had me confused here.  Aren't these messages you get when you send a ST (listed at the bottom, after the 4 evals)?  Do these messages even mean anything?  I've always thought they were window dressing, just like "he has the potential to be a D2 All-American when it's all said and done."

Basically, I don't think these are messages you get when you send a coach or player phone call...but maybe I'm wrong?

No, I think you're right, which is why I asked if there were any coach calls lately.  I don't remember getting those messages *from a scouting visit* unless the guy was recruitable.  I'm 99% sure you won't get that tacked onto the end of the email unless it's a player on your level.

the coaching call still gave me the backup choice... but i was getting the "recruitable" messages at the same time as I was getting the "d2 would be lucky" messages... IDK if the d2 messages means recruitable but I don't think so...  so that's why i came here confused, i was sending 8 scouting trips, 4 were telling me he's interested, 4 were telling me he thinks hes going d1.

darnoc's and llama's posts have me confused here.  If the question is if the stuff at the bottom of the evals is simply window dressing, then my response is no, it is  indicative of how close a guy is to being pulled down and definitely means something.  zbolton's first post had the verbage included that made me think he was already pulled down, but for whatever reason wasn't being considered.  So likely just a single HV at that point would've been sufficient to get considered.  He threw a CV which did the trick and then added an extra HV for whatever reason.

The conflict b/w any coach/player calls he had done in the same cycle(s) as getting those "recruitable-now" eval responses is one of the curious dynamics here, the other is the fact that the player was seemingly pulled down but wasn't considering zbolton even though he wasn't considering any other school.

i was torn between was he able to be pulled down or not... he gave me mixed indications... so i was almost on the verge of cutting my losses and moving on... until you guys said i should have been able to pull hima lready if i'm getting those recruitable responses.

Hmm.  I guess I always thought the stuff at the bottom of the ST messages was just window dressing.  Apparently I've never looked for any correlation between the messages and when the guy actually gets pulled down.

Zbolton-gillispie said it earlier, but I can reiterate.  If you're unsure if the guy has dropped, just throw a couple HVs his way.  If he rejects them, you know you haven't pulled the kid down yet and you get your money back.  If he accepts them, you know you've successfully pulled him down.

I can't firmly remember, but I think i tried....  i want to say i didn't get any face-to-face visit approved by the player until i offered a CV.. then for whatever reason I wanted to add a extra HV the next cycle just for a little reassurance on my end... hoping to make that "word on the street" sound a little more firm my way I guess.

Quick question:
In one evaluation, I got what I think are 2 comments on the same category (defense), which I didn't think happened...
- Defensive fundamentals need work - if he's willing to listen, we could really see some major improvement. <--- major improvement on defense.
- Frequently gets beaten off the dribble - if he works hard at it, we could see *massive* improvement here.  <--- "massive" improvement on defense?

I always thought the 'beaten off the dribble' comment had to do with defense... is this not the case...?  Or is "beaten off the dribble" under ball handling...?
Any help would be really appreciated.

The first one is defense.  The second one is speed.
