I take it from this discussion that player notes cannot be deleted?

You just need to backspace/delete the text, and then 'Save' again. They'll go away.

I did that. They didn't go away. Now I have blank notes.

You mean the yellow tag still shows up next to the name on the GM screen, but there is no text? Either it's a cookie thing, a bug, or there is a space or two still in the notes field (my guess anyway).

Yes. You have to start at the front and hold the delete key until everything disappears. Like this:
