There's a correlation, it just isn't linear. The higher the WE the more likely there will be an offseason gain. Don't think so hard about. The dude with a 78 WE is probably going to go up 5-20 points; the guy with a 16 is going to lose 5 or so.
Aww, ya told them. It was funnier to see zhawks and MikeT trying to sputter out some trash talk. (And actually I think there is more to it than just WE).

Coming from somebody else that statement might be intriguing. Coming from a guy who has never won a NT game and who routinely openly exhibits his ignorance of the basic operation of the game, lacks the experience to possibly have figured something like this out, and isn't interested in doing anything but defending against any perceived slight against the developers, it's kinda not.

The funniest part is you still think you're right. When you basically said "there has to be some formula to it" well clearly it's a video game which requires code. What you refuse to get through you thick skull is there are many long time and very successful coaches saying "it's basically random" and you still want to argue.

"clearly it's a video game which requires code" Ding ding ding we have a winner.

Now ...Long time coaches think it is coin flips ... dice rolls ... want to take up that argument, too?

I wasn't "worrying about it" as I assumed there was no control but was curious if anyone knew if there was some sort of pattern. Might make a difference in how one recruits in the 2nd session.

Other than WE, the only other slight correlation I have noticed is year. Jr.'s and Sr's tend to grow more than FR's and SOPH's. I don't think points left to grow is a factor because I have seen way to many guys pick up their few points in a skill in the off season.

It really is, there's no correlation between high work ethic and high offseason gains. There's only direct correlation to low work ethic and offseason losses.

It's ok to be wrong buddy.

My high WE guys almost always grow. I would say, with around 90% certaint, that guys above 80 WE grow 10+ points and guys under 10 always lose 5 or so points.

There is a HUGE difference in WE gains/losses between 5, 10 and 20.

Have you ever heard of a random number generator? I mean, when I was in high school my friends and I programmed a dice roll program to speed up Risk. Literally coded for a dice roll. And you can find tons of coin flip and dice roll algorithms all over the internet. Sooooooo...

I'd bet a significant amount of money that neither you nor your friends got laid in high school.

I mostly recruit high WE players (75+), and I've seen some randomness between high WE players, but I usually see between 12-22 for players between their first and second seasons.

Small sample size here, but the most interesting thing to me is the lack of correlation between potential and offseason development. Here's a player that had multiple blues and greens left:

Type A SPD REB DE BLK LP PE BH P WE ST DU FT OVR
Season Start 52 25 71 51 65 53 1 23 26 78 73 52 C 570
Season End 52 23 70 50 60 50 1 22 26 78 77 51 C 560

And here's a player with slightly lower WE with green PER and a few ratings that were black and the rest being yellow or red.
Type A SPD REB DE BLK LP PE BH P WE ST DU FT OVR
Season Start 22 47 21 32 19 31 52 52 43 73 72 73 B- 537
Season End 22 45 21 30 19 30 50 52 43 73 71 69 B- 525

Correct-there's no rhyme or reason. The only consistent is stamina will generally drop in the off-season. And of course, improvements/declines are based on WE.
There probably is some sort of "rhyme or reason." We just don't know what it is, and a lot of guys around here believe if they can't see something then that's proof it doesn't exist.
I'll take my 150+ seasons of 'evidence' over your made up 'theory'.
CoachSpud knows all. Do not question him.
