I always find it strange in the WISC how much time we spend talking about division strength and how little we spend talking about league strength. The difference between playing 14 games against someone and playing 12 is, in the long run, about 0. And sometimes a division means you get a fluky playoff spot, or miss a spot with 94 wins.

But these are much smaller effects than playing 12 games rather than 2 games against one of ozo's teams or one of discodemo's. In principle that draw, who gets into the AL and the NL, could have enormous effects, much bigger than the sorting within divisions.

All that said, I have just enough energy to write about this; I'm too lazy to do the league strength calculations.
Excellent point. Being top 4 in the league usually means playoffs unless two teams above you are in the same division (which would be very unlucky).

I would like to see league strength. But not just broken down by average owner seed by by how many teams are in group A, B, C where group A represents teams seeded 1 thru 32, group B is seeds 33-64 and group C is seeds 65+.

I wonder how much playing in theme leagues vs open leagues impacts the owner rating? I.e. which is more difficult, and which is easier to increase owner rating?

On a different note, I would love to see some sort of blacklist involved in a future league..adds in an extra layer of volatility that can't totally be prepared/planned for. (i.e. a certain amount of pitching/hitting leaders in round one are blacklisted in a league for round two, no A or A+ range, etc.). It sometimes forces you to draft a totally different way than you normally would.

At some point - at least for me - it gets tedious watching the same players do the same things over and over and over again, year after year after year, no matter what the league cap is. I know my own tendancy is going with players that have done well for me in the past, and use them in multiple leagues in this format. After reading through the team strategies, it seems that is common place. I'll be cuious to see what % of Cy Young winners are dead ball era pitchers vs modern era, what era the batting champs come from, etc.

We had a league either last year or the year before that blacklisted every single player used in Round 1. We also did one called Stale Cookie Whitelist a couple years ago. This year I wanted to open up the themes a bit to ensure we got 96 owners. Mission accomplished

As for owner rating, check this out.

Can we stop the season now? 13-5 start is just what I needed to stay competitive for at least 3 days lol!
I vote 'YES'!

This is incredible, how did you get the historical data? I was pretty certain my first title was an OL title, but surprised to see I have 0, Need to start getting in OL a little more I guess so I can get that crossed off my WIS bucket list.

I feel like being ranked 15th overall, but 5th in 4 of my leagues qualifies as very unlucky. #17 ranked owner is 4th in 4 of their leagues, which lands them on the lucky side of the coin.

I'm only bringing this up again bc it is a great example to go with this post. It's not about 'me'- as I pointed out the unfairness in the stadium rule change that didn't affect me.If I noticed the same seeding issue with 17 being 4th in 4 leagues and 15 being 5th in 4 leagues, I'd bring it up regardless of who the owners were.

To the point of the point of Scwarze's- being in the top 4 in your league should give you an advantage on making the 2nd round.
I feel like this 'luck' should be fixed manually. Like I said earlier, just do away with the ranking all together if they aren't followed anyway. But if the rankings exist, there is no excuse for the 15/17 mismatch.
All that said, I'm having a great time and enjoying this experience. I'm not bitter or anything related. I just say what I see.

I know my posts seem like I complain a lot--- but I'm really just pointing out my observations and my opinions on them.
Too much quoting here, but just to clarify one thing. When I was talking about leagues, I meant AL vs NL within a 'league'. That is, what I meant to say was that the random AL vs NL split within each of 1-A, 1-B etc could in principle have an enormous impact on how tough one's draw is - a much bigger impact than the division within the AL into AL East, Central and West. I suspect in practice it all more or less balances out, but it's possible that someone got kind of hosed at this stage.

It's annoying that we use the same word 'league' to separate 1-A 1-B etc, as we do to separate AL vs NL within each of 1-A, 1-B etc. We need better terminology :)

The data is available in the Team Center if you click "Champs" in the top right corner

Because I wanted/needed to learn some stuff about web scraping, I tried to automate some of the stuff ozo was doing. It was not trivial. It could be because I have no idea what I'm doing, but this website uses so much java that it is hard to automatically do some stuff that shouldn't be too hard to do. I couldn't figure out a better way than manually cutting and pasting - which yeah is a real service.

You can automate it using Python but it wasn't too time consuming to do manually (once) and then just occasionally update the most recent month or two
