Here's a crazy stat..

thejuice6 has 5 teams playing in round 4. Their cumulative record overall is 343-427, but their cumulative record in 1-run games is 101-77. The +.159 win% difference between 1-run (.567) and non 1-run games (.409) is easily the largest among all owners (w/2+ teams).

The correlation coefficient between draft pick number and win total is +0.35. As expected, this is higher than most of the previous versions, which makes sense since there was no incentive for the lower draft picks (i.e. no free agent draft or anything like that). The regression formula shows the difference between 1st pick and 24th pick to be worth about 12 wins. The average record thru 154 games for the bottom eight picks is 72-82. The average record for the middle eight picks is 78-76. The average record for the top eight is 81-73.

Kudos to toysboys (1983, 23rd pick), joerat1 (1896, 20th pick), SteveIzzy (2007, 15th pick), toysboys (1946, 16th pick) and many others who drafted in the bottom half and have had successful seasons.

I noticed that I listed toysboys twice in the paragraph above. That got me thinking. Based on what draft pick everybody had, I can calculate the expected wins using the regression formula, then can compare that to the actual wins. Who is overperforming the most. Here is the list of the overperformers. THe last column represents the "extra wins" per team for the owner...

I really thought 1983 was going to be a 90 loss team, but wow what a surprise. My strategy was to punt home runs and play in the Astrodome which seemed to work. I came in last place in HRs but 9th in doubles, 2nd in triples and 7th in runs scored. Terry Kennedy is my HR leader at 13 and everyone else played mostly to expectations.

1946 was also a surprise, though I might not make the playoffs for being in a nightmare division. When I drafted the team, I was also going to punt home runs but then I picked up Greenberg as my DH. He hit 51 of my 84 home runs. But the story is the pitching which allowed the least amount of runs in the league. I don't have a true ace, just a solid 1-5 staff and steady bullpen. Not a single guy with an ERA over 5.

My 1999 team was not really a surprise to me as I had them fairly highly rated and was surprised they weren't picked higher. I probably won't overtake Schwarze for the lead as they really faded in the last few weeks. Outside of Kevin Brown and Jeff Shaw, the pitching staff were all mediocre including FA Kevin Millwood. But the lineup was solid 1-9 and I was able to mix in a few L/R platoons which worked out well.

Funny that my 1925 team had the highest pick of my four and performed the worst....by far.
