I really wouldn't worry about your coaching reputation. It seems to be mostly eye candy at this point. I cut my own players all the time (supposed to be a big no-no), but my reputation never really falls below an A+.
supposed to be a big no-no? i don't think so...

cut away. the only folks who should remotely concern themselves are one who are about to leave the school. i would not cut your own player the season before you leave, and you probably don't want to cut like 3 of your own players when you might leave in 2 seasons. but when you are committed to a program and working on improving them, you can freely cut anyone without any meaningful consequences.

I was surprised when I started that the first thing I did was not recruit. I feel like this is really Year 0. I don't have any of my own players.

Also, I picked a team that went 2-25 last year so that I knew that any success they have in any future year is due to what I've done so I can figure out what works. Also, I can't make them any worse. :)
this is a great approach, good luck turning them around!

one word of wisdom though. about half the folks in your shoes will realize after 1-2 seasons, that the players they recruited were all wrong, not good ratings and all that, and that basically their team is screwed until all those players graduate. in such a situation, there is no shame in switching schools and starting over again. no reason to suffer on for a few more seasons. going to a crap school who has a bunch of players graduating soon, where you can make your mark quickly, is a great way to reset.

No one on my team plays defense. It's a poor defensive team with no one even with potential to get better. It's painful.

I will give some time to Martens and see what happens. His offensive numbers do not impress me. It's really that the three guys ahead of him I like more. But hey- I'm open to suggestions.

My main recruiting targets will be guys with Athleticism, defense and work ethic. Those are the three I'm looking for. I'm cautiously optimistic.

Yea, its a terrible man to man team, you're in a tough spot for at least 3 seasons. You could always just burn the team to the ground and cut like 4 guys in the off season and recruit 6 guys that fit the team better. You'll take it on the chin for at least 3-4 seasons anyways, may as well get better players in that you actually like better. You can't get fired in D3 and your loyalty won't get below C- anyways, so you've got nothing to lose.

Personally, this is how I would see your depth chart:

PG: Greenwalt / Martens
SG: Carbajal / Peacock / Weismiller
SF: Warburton / Cashin
PF: Kollar / Derrick / Kimble
C: Seidel / Haywood

You could always just swap players in and out until you find a lineup you like or works.
