al, does it usually take this long to put this baby to bed every season? I don't play close enough attention, but it seems like this went long

It usually does.  It reminds me of D1 recruiting here.  The big boys flex their muscles and make the moves they want and it trickels down the chain.  I understand it and accept it, but it is a shame that coaches and teams sign these long term deals and neither of them honor the contract.  It ultimately hurts the mid-level D1 teams who lose a head coach and it takes three months for all of them to finally fill the open spots.  BU's program has now been set back at least two years just from a recruiting impact.

I did the same thread last year but I don't remember how  long it took. I do recall that one school just hired an interim while continued searching during the season.

Alabama A& M took the longest this time, from March 21 to May 26. Then they picked their assistant coach, who's been there 16 years.
that's gotta make the asst/new HC really feel the love...

Like others have said, thanks for this thread al.

The Carousel is spinning again:

A local police chief told The Daytona Beach News-Journal the circumstances that led Bethune-Cookman University to fire its men's basketball coach this week. According to the chief, Cllifford Reed was dismissed after he refused to help police investigate a sexual assault charge involving C.J. Reed, the coach's son and a star player on the team. The assault report was made by a player on the university's women's basketball team, and no formal charges were brought against C.J. Reed. The investigation closed after the woman declined to follow through with her initial complaint. That complaint didn't identify her attacker, but authorities said C.J. Reed was the lone suspect. Authorities said that Clifford Reed would not allow detectives to question his son (when the case remained live), was rude to detectives and wouldn't let them take a DNA sample from off a couch in the men's basketball locker room. Both Reeds declined to comment.

Bethune-Cookman won the MEAC regular season, lost in the CT, then fell to Virginia Tech in the NIT. Their associate coach is taking over the program but it may be on an interim basis.

One that I missed:

Homer Drew retired at Valparaiso on May 17 and  is being replaced by his son, Bryce.  His other son, Scott, coaches at Baylor

Bethune Cookman named assistant Graville Craig as acting head coach for 2011-12.  Once again, all DI positions are filled.  List is updated on page 1
