WIS gave away a lot of free teams. Some of those owners will stick with their free teams and purchase more seasons--many wont.
They made no money off of the initial promo. With the new world, they will get the mix of veteran coaches and new users who were maybe on the fence for a new team, or who are really hooked and want in from season 1 on a supposedly level playing field.
They will also be giving a way a lot more free teams, it would seem. If they are notifying new users via e-mail of the new world like they have done in the past.
If they keep this promo going for awhile, D3 will stay relatively full across the board. And they will make their money on the percentage of users that keep renewing.

Post FREEHD off-season info in Crum. Season 22 in progress.
D3 0 sims
D2 111 sims
D1 142 sims
Total 253 sims
I don't know if anyone was tracking Crum before the promo. But this 250ish number will probably be common among the worlds now. Not the 900 plus number that Mully is showing.
I am not saying it won't go back up after the promo and new world launch. I frankly don't know. Will be interesting to see and I am sure will be discussed.

I think the promo was a good thing...even if only 1/2 of the new players are really new guys and not just user names, it did generate more interest.

If they keep the promo code going through the new world opening they are truly insane.

Why move up when the job or jobs I have wanted have not been open since early on when I began playing? That's my point. I don't want to to move up to DI and hope that the job I want opens up. I would rather stay in DIII with the program I have already built

well guess what. the chances of you getting your job while staying in DIII are much much much much much much lower than if you had moved up to DII and than on to a low level DI.
whats the saying

I'd be willing to bet that most to all of these "elite" jobs are filled by vets rather then by new guys or guys who have hung out in D3 because their job isn't avaliable.

One of the more interesting points in this thread is that coaches are assuming they will have success in the New World and thus, will end up at one of the "elite" schools just because they are open at the beginning of the New World. That's a big assumption and will lead to a lot of dissappointed coaches as the world progresses as it did in Crum when coaches didn't win the rat race to the "elite" schools and then coaches started quitting.
Most of the arguments here were also used when Crum opened up so that can be used as a good historical reference so far as how the world may hold up over the long run.

Why not build a DI program? If you do well, they could become a perrenial power. Even if they are not in an elite conference.
The odds you get the program you want, if it is in an elite conference, are slim, no matter who you are.

Why woouldn't the promo run through the new world opening? They did the same thing in GD for two worlds with a free promo. It's about creating the addiction, not about selling the teams at this point.
