Game 106: Fred Norman makes sure that the Riders don't go into a slide, throwing eight shutout innings against Detroit to win his 15th game, 6-0. Larry Hisle and Mike Lum hit home runs.
Game 107: Ramon Hernandez blows ANOTHER save, his ninth of the season, this time allowing five hits in the ninth to erase a 5-2 Rider lead. Darold Knowles finally gets the last out before Detroit takes the lead (but walks a batter to load the bases first). All ends well, though, as Larry Hisle blasts a home run in the bottom half to win it 6-5.
Game 108: Another wild one! Jon Matlack and Wilbur Wood match scoreless frames for seven innings, and the first relievers in throw two more blank innings each, sending the game to extras with no score. Darold Knowles relieves Elias Sosa with two down in the 10th and promptly walks the first two batters. The next two batters hit singles, and Detroit is up 3-0. Dave LaRoche finally gets the final out, striking out Ron Santo. Jack Aker enters for Detroit and retires Richie Hebner before allowing singles to Eddie Leon and Mike Lum. Larry Hisle comes to the plate... BLAMM!!!! His three-run homer ties the score. Bill Champion relieves, allows a single to Nate Colbert and walks Bill Robinson before retiring Thurman Munson for the second out. Champion then throws a wild pitch, putting runners at second and third for Charlie Spikes, who shoots a grounder through the hole to field, bringing home Colbert for the winner!
Milwaukee heads to Cleveland looking for some less stressful competition.

Game 109: Tommy John allows only three hits and no walks in eight innings as the Riders shut out the Saltdogs, 4-0. Mike Lum homers for Milwaukee.
Game 110: Terry Crowley, in his second start of the season, has three hits while Fred Norman pitches seven 2-hit frames and the Riders shut out Cleveland again, 7-0. Mike Lum, Thurman Munson, and Charlie Spikes hit home runs.
Game 111: Milwaukee scores six times in the first inning, but Bill Lee cannot hold the lead; Cleveland rallies and scores a surprising 8-7 win over the Riders.
Milwaukee hosts a tough Minnesota team (63-48) next.

Game 112: Bill Robinson has a home run and four RBI; Larry Hisle and Mike Lum have three hits each; and Jon Matlack cruises to his 14th victory, 12-2 over Minnesota.
Game 113: Mike Lum and Thurman Munson both hit crooked-number home runs and the Riders beat Minnesota 8-4 behind Tommy John, who wins his 14th game.
Game 114: The amazing Fred Norman throws seven shutout frames to earn his 17th win of the season, 10-0 over Minnesota. Gene Michael is the unlikely offensive star with three hits and five RBI.
The Riders head to Chicago to take on the White Sox (80-34).

Game 115: Thurman Munson motors around third and scores on Gene Michael's ninth-inning single, giving Milwaukee a 3-2 lead. Despite some recent struggles, the Riders turn to Ramon Hernandez for the bottom half and he comes through, throwing a scoreless inning for his 34th save.
Game 116: Tom Seaver continues his career-long mastery of the Riders, striking out 10 in a complete game 1-0 shutout. Chicago scores in the bottom of the ninth on Buddy Bradford's two-out single.
Game 117: Tommy John has two really bad innings; Chicago's Reggie Cleveland has only one. Chicago takes the series with an 8-6 win in the finale. The loss leaves Milwaukee at 84-33, two games ahead of Chicago in the battle for home field advantage in their likely first-round playoff tilt.
Milwaukee hosts Oakland next as divisional play returns.

Game 118: Milwaukee had trouble with Oakland earlier this season, and those problems return as Elias Sosa allows four runs in the ninth to give the Zoo a 7-3 win. Milwaukee has dropped three straight and is only one game ahead of Chicago in the race for home field.
Game 119: Richie Hebner backs Skip Lockwood with four hits and four RBI as the Riders get some revenge with an 8-5 win over Oakland. Lockwood lasts 7.1 innings and improves to 4-1. Ted Sizemore and Larry Hisle have three hits each.
Game 120: Bill Lee is brilliant, and Terry Crowley blasts his second home run since his recent return to the active roster. Milwaukee wins, 4-1 and Lee improves to 16-4.
Montreal heads to Kansas City to face the second place Blue Sox.

Game 121: Jon Matlack throws eight scoreless innings and the Rider bats feast on Mike Corkins, pounding out 17 hits in a 14-0 win. Charlie Spikes hits the only Milwaukee home run, his ninth. Matlack improves to 15-4.
Game 122: Steve Blass walks the first four batters, Larry Hisle later hits a grand slam, and the Riders score nine times in the first on the way to a 16-3 win over Kansas City. Tommy John has an easy path to his 15th win.
Game 123: Nate Colbert commits a key error, and Ramon Hernandez blows his 10th save of the season as the Blue Sox score six times in the bottom of the ninth to steal a 9-5 win in the series finale.
Anaheim (42-81) is set to visit Milwaukee to close out this divisional stretch.

Game 124: Milwaukee can do nothing against Marty Pattin, and by the time they get to the Angel bullpen it's too late. Skip Lockwood takes the loss in a 6-4 decision.
Game 125: Bill Lee and Ramon Hernandez combine on a seven-hitter, walking none and allowing only singles, as the Riders get a big RBI single from Ted Sizemore in the eighth to take a 1-0 decision.
Game 126: Jon Matlack strikes out 10 and improves to 16-4; Milwaukee scores eight unearned runs in the seventh to cap off a 13-2 victory.
Milwaukee hosts Boston next, who just lost their 100th game of the season.

Game 127: Ted Sizemore rips a three-run homer, his second blast of the season, and Richie Hebner adds his 30th as the Riders take the Stranglers 9-2 in the opener. Tommy John goes seven innings for the win, his 16th, and has two hits with two RBI.
Game 128: Fred Norman throws six shutout innings for his 18th win. The Riders get two RBI from Charlie Spikes in a 5-0 victory.
Game 129: Skip Lockwood may have lost his opportunity to start any more games this season; after cruising through five, he allows four straight baserunners to start the sixth inning. Elias Sosa provides little relief. Boston explodes for a seven-run inning and hangs on for a 9-7 win.
Milwaukee heads to the Bronx to take on the Mammoths, who could pick up their 100th win this week.

Game 130: Vida Blue, facing a lineup more suited for a game with the Stranglers, outpitches Bill Lee as the Mammoths take the opener, 4-1. With two straight losses, the Riders fall behind the White Sox in the race for the #2 seed.
Game 131: Dave Giusti stifles the Riders, allowing only one hit over the final 2.1 innings, and the Mammoths score five times in the seventh off Darold Knowles and Dave LaRoche to take another win, 6-2.
Game 132: Milwaukee salvages the finale, 4-1, getting six shutout innings from Tommy John and a home run from Mike Lum.
The Riders head to Washington to face the Commandos.

Game 133: Jim Slaton throws eight shutout innings against the Riders, outdueling Fred Norman. Milwaukee gets consecutive home runs from Nate Colbert and Bill Robinson with two down in the ninth off Orlando Pena, but can do no more, losing 3-2 and falling three games behind the White Sox.
Game 134: Richie Hebner hits a two-out double in the 12th to score Ted Sizemore with the lead run, and Ramon Hernandez allows only a single in the bottom half to close out a 4-3 win over Washington.
Game 135: Larry Biittner's first home run of the season is a grand slam in the third that gives Milwaukee a 6-0 lead.. however, the bullpen collapses late (Darold Knowles being the main culprit) and the Commandos force extra innings with three in the eighth. The extra frames are quiet until the 14th, when Thurman Munson leads off with a home run. Ramon Hernandez throws a scoreless bottom half and the Riders escape with an 8-7 win.
Milwaukee hosts Baltimore next.

Game 136: Six Riders collect two hits; Tommy John allows only two hits to the IronBirds, and Milwaukee wins the opening game of the series, 9-1. John improves to 18-6.
Game 137: Milwaukee takes a 3-2 lead in the bottom of the eighth on Bill Robinson's sacrifice fly, but Ramon Hernandez blows his 11th save, allowing a home run to George Hendrick in the top of the ninth. Charlie Spikes and Gene Michael single to lead off the bottom of the ninth, followed by a walk to Richie Hebner. With Eddie Leon at the plate, John Rollyson still cannot find the plate, walking Leon to force in the winning run.
Game 138: Fred Norman combines with two relievers on a two-hitter, and luckily so because the Riders score only two runs off Bob Gibson. Norman gets his 19th win in the 2-1 decision.
Milwaukee heads east to face Detroit.
