So ku, no class based all-conference teams this season?
8/15/2008 8:58 PM
Nice job North Atlantic. You guys are beating the Commonwealth Conference solidly this year, and I think we are going to have to settle for #2.

I thought it lost a bit of its luster after the same players kept showing up again and again and again.

And to boot, I was on the road for the first week of the season. My computer access was limited. Not that it takes long to run the numbers, but it was time I didn't have.

But I can post them ... I'm guessing this season is going to look a lot like last season.

And thanks for the kind words, reinsel. Think the NT might have to settle who is #1!

Little change or not, its still a nice read. Besides, the freshmen lists are always new...and from the looks of this one, I have a pretty solid collection of freshmen.

Next season I will likely be redshirting a sophomore...would he be included with the sophomore list, freshman list, or sophomore redshirt list?

He'll be on the "I can't believe you are redshirting me. You know I'm a sophomore, right?" list.
8/18/2008 7:59 AM
I've been including redshirt sophomores with the freshman. That's the class they end up with. On my team, you'll notice Diaz and Hollowell sneak in -- it's because they redshirted as sophomores.

I'm always a bit shocked when sophomores take the redshirt. And I can't remember if it was 3 or 4 or maybe 5 seasons ago, but when MMA got Coder to take the redshirt after he started every game as a freshman, it just blew me away. Or at least it did until Salem State got a junior to take the redshirt, which set up the 12 man superclass.
8/18/2008 7:21 PM
Speaking of the 12 man superclass, Salem State is a lot better than I expected this year. As are the rest of you guys. I might have to rethink my bold preseason prediction for Thomas.

So here's how I have things going into conference play:

1. Becker

2. Husson
I pretty much have Becker and Husson tied. But I like Becker's chance to sweep Husson since Husson's rebounding advantage will mean less in a press vs. press game.

3. Salem State
The press/man defense is going to hit A- IQ during the regular season. (I think.) This is my crazy prediction -- Salem State turns the corner toward the end of the regular season and makes a run to the Elite Eight setting themselves up for a NT run next year.

4. Mount Ida
Should be interesting to see how the league's best starting rotation holds up in conference play with one of the worst benches thanks to ji03's neglect in season 28. An injury to one of the starters could send this team plummeting.

5. Thomas
Can't get past the fact that the defense is just terrible. And the two freshmen that aren't playing make the team rating look a lot better than it really is.

6. Castleton State
This is a slight. And I'm playing them tonight. Talk about bulletin board material.

7. Elms

8. UMPI
These two teams should destroy the NAC next season ...

9. Lasell
As good as I think Salem State might become during conference play, Lasell is going to get even better as the 11 underclassmen gain in IQ. This team finishes with Thomas and Becker and could win either.

10. MMA
As somebody who grew up with Danny and the Miracles, it pains me to say this, but I just don't see the same thing happening with Joseph Barker.

11. UMF
Ranking pending to change if Coach Floyd decides to try again this season.

12. Johnson State
This conference should be able to outcoach Sim AI.
8/18/2008 7:53 PM
I've had a senior take a redshirt before. Not something I would normally have done but...I just took over a team and I was looking at having to start either a transfer or freshman the following season if I didn't do something.

11. UMF
Ranking pending to change if Coach Floyd decides to try again this season.

Aw, man, that's cold.
8/18/2008 8:55 PM
Congrats to my fellow conference mates in the NAC...6 to the NT and 2 to the PIT. Look out world! There's a lot of youth in the conference.
9/10/2008 11:49 AM
I was still holding out hope that we can overtake you guys, but your 5-3 first round pretty much ended our hopes. I guess the commonwealth will have to settle for second this season. We have quite a few young teams as well, so it should be a good race again next year.

Still if you go 0-5 in the 2nd round and we go 4-0..... :)
9/10/2008 4:11 PM
You ain't dead yet. Plenty of quality in the Commonwealth and while if I had the chance to bet, I'd go with the North Atlantic, I'm not at all certain we have it wrapped up.

Husson is our most complete team. It would be very disappointing for them to lose tonight.

Our other three teams still alive all have weaknesses that can be exploited. Then again, they all have massive strengths that are really tough to beat. In a loser go home scenario, it doesn't take much for one of us to lose. (Especially with Salem State being a 21 point dog to the top team in the land.)

Between Thomas/Castleton/Moravian and Lebanon/UPB/Salem I do have to say I like the chance of our conferences filling out the side of the championship game's bracket. The right side is going to be counting on a whole lot of Husson and Widener.
