Christianity neither is, nor ever was a part of the common law. In every country and in every age, the priest has been hostile to liberty -- Thomas Jefferson
The government of the United States is not in any sense founded on the Christian religion -- John Adams
Religion and government will both exist in greater purity the less they are mixed together -- James Madison
Bah, but what do THEY know about the true intentions of our founding fathers?
So, for 200+ years they had it wrong, until some snowflakes delivered us from evil ?
Not sure what this is supposed to mean, but based on your posts I'm betting history isn't your strong suit.
Tearing stuff down ? Taking 10 commandments off walls and pledge of allegiance out of schools cuz holy cow some hellbound might be offended ?! Is that better, professor ?
I abhor this recent movement of tearing down historical statues. The movement is led by morons who don't know history. During one of the many temper tantrums these scholarly folks around the country were having on a regular basis, they toppled the statue of Col. Hans Christian Heg an abolitionist who gave his life fighting for the Union.
Brilliant...
While I wish we hadn't strayed so far away from God's precepts in this country, unfortunately it is largely the fault of ungodly men using the Bible as a club and misrepresenting God's word to excuse their hate and ungodly behavior.
Further, the more immigrants from other backgrounds, cultures and faiths entered our country the more assured this is the destination we were headed.
When a government building displays any religious item it's perfectly fine so long as the vast majority identifies with said religion. To be clear, when I use the phrase "it's perfectly fine" I don't mean it's condoned constitutionally, but rather it will likely encounter little resistance.
It was only a matter of time before enough folks with Christian upbringing fell away in concert with the ever increasing number of folks who hold completely different faiths would inevitably lead to what we're seeing now.
With regard to the pledge of allegiance, it wasn't even a thing until 1892. Interestingly it orginally was written by an ordained minister and read as follows:
I pledge allegiance to my flag and to the Republic for which it stands—one Nation indivisible—with liberty and justice for all.
They changed it a bit in the 20s and added "under God" in the 50s as a direct counter to the "godless communists". I'm not 100% sure, but pretty sure it wasn't compulsory in schools until WWII, and was immediately challenged as unconstitutional. The courts have flip-flopped over the years on it.
