Savage Draft Commentary thread Topic

I don't care too much about division draft vs. randomized, but I've been wondering whether there will be any kind of system determining which of our teams goes in which iteration of the league.

I've been assuming dh sets up 5 leagues and we just choose which team to put in which league. Completely blind. Is there any chance of the system somehow being gamed that way?

Also - I have no concept of how to even approach putting these teams together. I have five teams with five Durants in the draft center, and can't even fathom yet how I would go about deciding which Chandler to pair with which Durant, much less any of the seasons of other guys I'm considering drafting. Sheesh.

I had proposed in the classified ad that I could set up divisions using numbers only so that we ensure teams are changing divisions enough that they play every owner a balanced number of times, then we just randomize which number each owner gets assigned to.

Yes, that makes sense. I tried to come up with something by assigning teams a division letter and team number (so that the teams were A1-A6, B1-B6, C1-C6, and D1-D6) but it doesn't really work easily because divisions are 4x6 rather than 5x5. I couldn't come up with any great system other than just doing it manually from there. Pretty sure you're better than me at stuff like this though, so you may be able to come up with a more clever way to do it.

If I understand that suggestion, I like it. A system for minimizing the possibility that the same configurations of players face us each other most of the time in each league.

hey guys... check out cmcafeeky's CAP progressive league. You draft 3 new players every year and you keep them for 4 years. Like a freshman coming into college for 4 years and then graduating. Drafts are relatively short since there's only 3 rounds. There's an opening and it's a great concept. Get with cmcafeeky if you want to learn more.

That looks pretty good, except that League 1 and League 2 appear to have too much overlap in the divisions.

I knew it was unrealistic to hope Manu made it back to me, but I held out some hope that people would balk on spending a 3rd round pick on 1600-2200 minute seasons.

Each team in league 2 plays 2 common division opponents from league 1.
They overlap in general is unavoidable and putting it there made it simpler to see which matchups couldn't happen again.

I certainly wouldn't be offended if a different direction was taken.

I think in league 2, you can switch the 2nd and 5th teams from each division (switch 3 and 21, switch 4 and 22, switch 10 and 16, and switch 9 and 15) and eliminate a lot of the overlap plus add some divisional matchups that wouldn't otherwise happen.

yesssss...this is what i was hoping for with the divisions...everyone plays each opponent at least once in their division...with the overlap being you will have to face two different opponents twice in your division

definitely use numbers when figuring it out...after we figure out how that works(looks like you guys are already close) we have two options...

option 1 - randomly assign names to the numbers and post the divisions...then i will send out the league numbers and you can choose what team you want to enter in each league based on your division opponents

option 2 - i send out the league numbers and owners randomly enter your teams into the leagues not knowing your division opponents...once the leagues are filled then we randomly assign the numbers to the owners and ill realign the divisions based on that

im good with either option

in both scenarios you wont be able to see your opponents teams until the league starts...i would be the only who can see the teams(ill have to check the teams for illegal players) and i think its noticeable if i tried to pull any of my teams out and change them
