Uhhhhh...false alarm, I guess. Everybody relax. Until tonight, anways.
I ran an uptempo Triangle Zone/Press, with a -1 setting, and a double-if-leading-scorer on Burrows, because he was their only consistent outside threat.

I feel like I went with the best gameplan I could, a slowdown set at 0, against their fullcourt press with even minutes dispersed throughout the team. Bowling Green played a +1, we hit only 4 of 18 3-point attempts, had 16 turnovers, and got Fanelli and Carey fouled out, before losing 54-62.

I feel like I had the advantage, but this is still a game of chance. Maybe I had a 65% chance to win, but that me with a 35% chance to lose, and that's what happened.

This was still a great, great year and an excellent postseason.

I'll post some senior retrospectives tomorrow.

11/16aat17068Yeah, a 7th place conf RPI isn't bad for us mid-tier types. Hey, we beat the SEC.
11/16schultz11congrats on the good season boys...hopefully, we can get the terrier program turned around...
11/151OldDawgCongrats on a fine season, colorblind.
11/15colorblind79thanks, guys. I'm guessing that was my best chance to win a Championship at Fordham, but as I've found before, best chances aren't only chances.
11/15zamiamgreat season, cb!
11/15coachensteinIt was a good run, blind man. All Da Bronx is proud of ya.
11/14bludlucianokeep it up colorblind
11/14colorblind79I can't explain that win, at least not to the degree that we won. I guess I don't have to...on to the next game!
11/14zamiamWow. That was a statement, cb. Ivy Power!!
11/14coachensteinUNC sure was a big hurdle in Fordham's path - a mere 41 point win.
11/13colorblind79yeah, that's pretty sad
11/13zamiamDid anyone notice that the BYU Sim AI won the D1 coach of the year?
11/13aat17068He has a 965 SF. My best player is 803 (was). He has a team average of 795, just 8 lower than my best guy. Good luck CB. As you've proved, this game is more than overall talent, it is recruiting the right talent and coaching.
11/13colorblind79I don't think I've ever seen a more talented team than my next opponent, UNC
11/13coachensteinKeep it up, blind man, keep it up. We're all pulling for you.
11/11colorblind79I just hope I haven't peaked too soon, and can make some real noise in the NT this year.
11/111OldDawgCongrats on running roughshod over the conference, colorblind. I almost would have felt bad if we had snuck off with a win last night. Good luck the rest of the way gentlemen!
11/11colorblind79the lack of upsets leaves me with a decent opponent first round...
11/11coachensteinThree Ivy League teams in the NT and two in the PI. Well done, guys.
11/10aat17068We need to have few upsets in the conference tourney's to get Cornell and Columbia in. If there are a ton of bad teams winning their CT's, we are doomed.

David Palmer, 6'6" 204 lbs., carries a 3.4 GPA, was a player I didn't need last year, so I felt good about redshirting him. As a small forward, he doesn't do anything particularly well, except perhaps shooting free throws. His defense is poor, his speed and athleticism adequate, basically everything about him is adequate except his defense. I'm not crazy about him, but I expect him to be a backup, anyways, for his entire time with me. He could develop into a contributor, as he does at least have good potential in every rating other than defense, due to his overall mediocrity.
Starting off the senior retrospectives, David Palmer...

Contrary to coach colorblind79's prediction, David Palmer was not a lifelong backup for the Fordham Rams...rather, he started one game early in his sophomore season, as a means of punishing Robert Thompson. Year after year, Palmer contributed minutes and points to the Rams. His efforts provided a key component in the golden era of Fordham basketball, and despite his dearth of personal accolades, Palmer exits the program as the most accurate, albeit not the most prolific, 3-point shooter in school history.

Laurence "The Phenomenon" Fanelli blossomed from an awkward teenager to a First-Team All American before the eyes of the Ram faithful. He brought a dynamism and excitement to the team that has never before been seen in the Ivy League, and although it would be patently unfair to claim he has lifted, through his efforts, singlehandedly, the League from relative obscurity to a burgeoning mecca of mid-major college basketball greatness, at the very least it can be said that his part was the most substantial of anyone.

The Phenomenon exits Fordham as the eighth highest scorer in school history, second in assists and steals, sixth in minutes played. He exceeded even the loftiest projections of his potential.

I think his low post and rebounding ratings will go up fairly quickly, and his FT shooting is really quite good for a freshman big man, which is where I really like to emphasize the ability. Taylor "The Bronx Bully" Carey is, in reality and off the court, from Connecticut and a gentle giant of a young man, but his misnomer seemed more than appropriate over the course of his two years of starting for the Fordham Rams. Raw as a flank steak upon his arrival in the Bronx, Carey marinated behind Nathan Goines and Gregg Carroll before simmering in the shadow of John Byrd and then developing to a crisp, delectable char in his senior season.

Carey leaves the team as the fifth-greatest FT shooter in school history, the 11th greatest rebounder, the 6th best blocker, and the 13th best in FG percentage, all after a relatively slow start.

If all that works out, he'll be a very strong player for me starting with his second sophomore season, as a reserve, and he'll eventually step into the starting job.

Lenard Hall, known affectionately by his coach and teammates as "The Stubborn Schmuck," could have had a great career if he'd accepted the fact that there was no playing time for him his sophomore season, and taken the redshirt, but nooooooooooooo. Instead of three years of significant playing time, Lenard had to settle for two in which he earned the grudging respect of colorblind79, albeit generally any praise for the young man was followed by a string of curses.
