it's weird because the 1969-70 season the Celtics were 8 of 14 in defensive rating - just a complete mystery what happened in the years between - just no idea

I think I've posted this before but in the 1955-56 season the Celtics were ranked 6 of 8 in D rating and 8 of 8 in Opp scoring the next season they were ranked 1st in both of those categories and they won a title and then they more or less stayed that way for the next 9 or 10 seasons while winning a title almost every one of those seasons

I wonder what might have happened between the 1955-56 season and the 1956-57 season - does anyone have any ideas....?
Tommy Heinsohn started eating steroids like candy and washing 'em down with a jug of whiskey before every game. After he nut-punched the entire Lakers squad in a blacked-out roid-rage, teams just began giving up. If Red hadn't started feeding him horse tranquilizers before every game, the league would have folded, Tommy standing over his vanquished foes, slurring out his famed war cry. "Eric Montross is better in the low-post than Shaq! Walter McCarty would destroy Hakeem 1-on-1! Dino Radja is the GOAT!" Just the sad, violent ravings of a lunatic...

Really makes all the defensive ratings kind of...arbitrary?

The silly Russell d rating issue is at least in part because of all-defensive teams. Aside from whatever (completely unknown) formula they have for calculating D rating, there seems to be an automatic bump to 90 D for making 1st team all defense. (There also seem to be lots of guys at 70 and 80 - eitherfor making the second team or some kind of adjustment for guys they thought came out too low. But those teams weren’t named for most of Russell’s career; it’s no coincidence that his 90 D rating comes in the first season of all-defensive teams (which he was on).

tl;dr like a lot of things in this Sim the d ratings are underbaked and haven’t been touched for years.

I tried using WIS to help me figure this out, but apparently the Celtics don't have anyone with over a 70 D rating until 1969. I had figured they drafted someone really good at defense, like maybe the best defender ever, but apparently that was not the case.

it's just a shame Scott doesnt have the extra 2 minutes it would take to access the player files and just change 9 seasons to 100 (or dare I say 110?) - way too much trouble and time to address such a minor error

I think you mean KC Jones

(although in seriousness KC was definitely part of the recipe too)

Parish is a walking ulcer in this format. Paralysis by analysis on how to build with him. Great value, but I’m already too neurotic for that.
and the award for my favorite comment of the day goes to....

It took some convincing myself, but with Manu taken I had to go with Moncrief. I'll have to make up with 3s at PG/SF, but I wanted at least 1 stud defensive perimeter guy. Don't know who's going to be in my divisions, I'd like to have one guy who can give a hard time to most PGs/SGs. He's fairly efficient, not a huge amount of TOs. Good OReb/subpar DReb, but that doesn't matter much with Ben/Dwight.
